Dear Speech Coaches,
Welcome to the CCHS Terrier Winter Classic! This will be the third SISAL tournament of the season.
DATE: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
STRUCTURE: There will be three flighted preliminary rounds with Varsity and Novice finals. However to allow the students to prep for each round, exempt and radio will only have two preliminary rounds. Radio and Extemp prep will begin at 9 a.m. For this tournament, radio will prep onsite, and topics will not be sent in advance for extemp.
Depending on the size of the tournament and the number of judges then we will include a Next-in finals as well. The first round will begin at 9:30. We ask that you please arrive no later than 7:45.

ENTRIES: Sweepstakes will be calculated using your top two speakers in each event. All teams will register using Speechwire.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Tuesday, November 28, 2023, by noon.
EVENTS: All 14 IHSA events
AWARDS: All individual finalists will as well as the top five teams and top two limited entry teams will receive an award.
CONCESSIONS: The cafeteria will have donuts, yogurt parfaits, pizza, bosco sticks, soda, water, fresh fruits, and other snacks. Outside food is discouraged except in the case of special diet needs.
JUDGES: Each team is expected to bring one qualified judge for every six entries. A limited number of hired judges may be available at a cost of $80 per judge.

Impromptu - IHSA rules will apply
Radio - Prep once for EACH prelim and again for finals
Extemp - Prep once for EACH prelim and again for finals
Time - IHSA time violations will be observed for radio only. We will take care of this in tab.
IMPORTANT NOTES:

Carbondale High School as Vaping Sensor installed all in the bathrooms and throughout the building. Each time the sensor detects vaping, members of the administration and Carbondale Police Department Resource Police Officers are notified. Please remind your students, judges, and coaches that vaping is strictly prohibited in the building. Individuals caught vaping may be asked to leave the tournament. We appreciate your assistance in avoiding this issue.

Saturday evening is Carbondale’s Lights Fantastic Parade. At the tournament, we will provide a map of the detour for teams heading west on Rt. 13.
