IU Columbus Speech Tournament
Saturday, December 7, 2025
IU Columbus warmly welcomes you to join us for its annual speech tournament. We will be offering all 15 ISSDA events. These events will be contested across 4 straight rounds of competition.
Schools are welcome to bring up to 40 entries and may enter up to 5 entries per event. Doubling is allowed, except for Discussion competitors and across the extemps (in other words, a competitor in USX may not also compete in IX).
Extemp contestants should plan on prepping rounds 1 and 3.
Broadcasting should prepare as follows:
Round 1: Five-minute newscast including commercial. The commercial should be about Newfields' Winterlights: https://discovernewfields.org/events-exhibitions/winterlights
Round 2: Same as round 1
Round 3: Same as round 1
Round 4: Breaking news bulletin
Broadcasters should include music intro and outro, international, national, and local stories along with the commerical. Weather reporting is optional.
Discussion prompts will be posted on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Extempers will be asked to follow the ISSDA rules and NO notecards will be allowed for speech delivery.
Due to the campus layout, building sizes, and lack of centralized area for congregating, we will be capping the tournament at 300 total entries. Please plan on enjoying our concessions and well-stocked judges lounge.
This tournament will be held on the Columbus Airpark campus (use Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave., Columbus, IN 47203) as your destination address.
Entries should be submitted via Speechwire by Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 5pm.
If you have any questions, please contact Anna Carmon, tournament director, acarmon@iu.edu.
We look forward to seeing you on December 7!
