SNAFU #3 – Ed Leonard Memorial Tournament

Co-Hosted by Seton Hall University and SNAFU

On behalf of the Brownson Speech and Debate Team at Seton Hall University and the SNAFU board, we are delighted to invite you to SNAFU #3 the Annual Ed Leonard Memorial Speech and Debate Tournament to be held in person on Nov 8th, 2025 at Seton Hall. SNAFU is also offering a Sunday swing tournament on Nov 9th – SNAFU #4 – Charity Ball.

The Ed Leonard Memorial Tournament is open to all schools wishing to attend and will be governed by SNAFU. We will offer all 11 AFA-NST events, IPDA debate, as well as a special I.E. event: Impromptu Sales. It was Ed Leonard’s favorite event and we honor his memory annually by offering this opportunity.

Impromptu Sales Event Description: Students will receive a random object and will have 6 minutes to prepare and deliver a convincing sales pitch on the object. The focus is on the uses of this object, the organization of the speech, creativity, and general delivery skills. Give this fun novel event a try!

Flights:

A: EXT, DUO, PERS, POI, INFO, PRO

B: IMP, DI, POE, CA, ADS, SALES

Ed Leonard was an extremely talented young man who began his forensics career at Brookdale Community College and spent the last years of his life at Seton Hall. He truly made an indelible imprint upon the forensics community. Ed was always kind to others and very humble when he accepted his numerous awards. Ed treated others with dignity and respect. Perhaps Seneca the Elder had Ed Leonard in mind when he penned, "An orator is a good man who speaks well". It is our intent to bottle Ed Leonard's "goodness" at his tournament's namesake, and we are looking forward to offering you a well organized and high spirited weekend full of quality competition.

All other elements of this tournament will be governed by this season’s SNAFU invitation included below.
