Judging: Schools are expected to provide experienced forensic and debate students to judge. Please bring one event judge for every six event entries and one debate judge for every two debate entries. With enough judges, we will single wave LD and PF, so bring a lot. Please inform your judges and competitors of appropriate behavior. (If you are a new program and don’t have any advanced students who can judge, just let us know.) We will be using electronic ballots with paper ballots as backups. Please let your student judges know that they will need a laptop, tablet, Chromebook, etc. for judging. (Phones will work but they are a bit more difficult to navigate, so I’ve been told.)
Schedule: All events, including debates, will have 3 rounds. (We are planning to single wave LD & PF)
7:00-7:30 – Registration
8:00 – Round 1
9:30 – Round 2
11:00 – Round 3
1:00 – Awards
Awards: We will award Superior and Excellent ribbons to top performers. We intend to be extremely generous with awards.
Concerns or Questions: If you have any questions or need clarification please contact us at any time. The tournament chair is Emily Orr (emily.orr@jeffco.k12.co.us).
Rules:
Each school (administration, teachers, and/or coaches) is responsible for ensuring they have proper parental permission for students to participate in the tournament and to use the designated competition platforms.
A responsible coach must be available ONSITE and VIA CELL at all times.
Competition is open to 9-12 grade students representing the school in which they are officially enrolled and doing so with the permission of their school administration and/or coaches.
We will use CHSAA rules in all events.
In CX, no kritiks or counterplans are allowed.
In CX, we will employ the NFHS Novice case limits.
In Original Oratory and Informative Speaking, scripts are optional
A pizza lunch will be provided for competitors and judges; again, the cost has been accounted for in the entry fees. Lunch and snacks will be provided for coaches.
Definition: Novice is defined as a student in the first semester of competition in either public speaking or interpretation. Generally, an experienced debater is not a novice in OO or Extemp, but may be a novice in Interp. Your judgment is the final rule concerning whether a student belongs at this tournament of novices, and I will not question your judgment.
