2024 Viking Voice

The Northwest Speech Team would like to invite you to the 2024 Viking Voice Speech Tournament on February 17th at Northwest High School.  In addition, Northwest is once again a qualifying tournament for NIETOC.  The NIETOC Qualifying events are Humorous, Dramatic/Serious, POI, Duet Acting, Informative, Extemp and Persuasive(Oratory) and other supplemental events.  The NIETOC Tournament is a National Tournament and this year will be held at Bellevue High School in Nebraska.  Check out http://nietoc.com/faq/ for more information on qualifying.

EVENTS
Our tournament is an open competition, offering all ten NSAA Events.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Format and rules will be the same as NSAA Districts except for ties.  Tie-Breaking will include the new introduced format (strength of schedule). We will have two rounds of preliminary competition and finals for Champs and Honors. Top 6 in each entry will go to Champs Finals. Next 6 will go to Honors Finals.

PAPER BALLOTS (Yes they are back)
We've had some request to go back to paper ballots, so this year we are making the switch.  Hopefully it will be worth it to kill another tree.

AWARDS
We will only have a VARSITY Division.  Medals for the top 12 places.  Top 6 in Champs and Top 6 in Honors.

TEAM AWARDS
We will award plaques to the top two teams in Sweepstakes

PARKING:
Come early and use the main parking lot.  There will be a club volleyball tournament happening the same day so the lot will be FULL as well as the building.

SCHEDULE
To be announced.  Start time will try to remain at 9am. However, we will run on time and keep things on schedule to get everyone home at a good time.

ENTRY DUE DATE
Please have entries and judges submitted on SpeechWire by 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 11th.  Changes can be made until Thursday, February 15th at 4:00 PM.  Any changes after that can be emailed to me but will not be refunded.

FOOD
There will be a concession stand in the cafeteria running all day.  There is also a volleyball tournament happening at the same time.  They will have their own concessions too.  Please keep drinks and food out of the auditorium and classrooms. We appreciate your support as this event is our only fund raiser for our team.

FEES
Entry Fees are $8 per event.  Each school is responsible for providing one qualified judge for every five entries.  Entries not covered by a judge will incur a $15 judging fee. Entry fees will be locked at 4 PM on Thurs, February 15th.  It's hard to find judges in our area.  In order to keep these fees from increasing, we ask that you please bring enough judges to meet your teams entries.

EXTEMP
Extemp draw and prep will be in the library.  We have a Public WiFi that will be available to contestants. 1 Hour Prep Time.

COACHES
Please tell your kids to be respectful of our classrooms.  DO NOT touch things in the classroom that should not be touched.  Respect our staff spaces and belongings.  Please provide your own duet tables and chairs.  If you need to borrow, ask.  DO NOT REMOVE CHAIRS/TABLES FROM OTHER CLASSROOMS.
