The Circle of Courage
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in South Dakota. View manager contact information Washington High School Circle of Courage Oral Interpretation Tournament Friday, October 20, 2023 Oral Interpretation Coaches: We are pleased to invite you to attend The Circle of Courage Oral Interpretation Tournament at Sioux Falls Washington, held Friday, October 20. We will be holding three preliminary rounds of competition followed by a finals round and awards. In addition to our varsity events, we will offer a novice division in all categories. In the event that novice entries do not allow separate rounds in a particular category, we will combine novice and varsity, but will still separate results for the purpose of awards. We hope to offer all competitors a positive experience. New this year, we are a NIETOC bid tournament. Students placing in their events will receive one of two required bids to the NIETOC tournament held in May 2024 in Omaha, NE. If you’d like more info about NIETOC, please let us know! Bid placements will be determined as entry numbers are finalized, and I will update you as the date nears. Events and entries Schools may have an unlimited number of entries in each of our seven divisions: Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Storytelling (theme: perseverance), Non-Original Oratory, Poetry, and Reader’s Theatre. Students may be double entered; we will allow a triple entry if the third entry is Reader’s Theatre. Rounds will be staggered to keep the tournament running smoothly. Registration I will be using SpeechWire to manage the tournament entries. Please login, locate The Circle of Courage Interp event, and proceed with registration. Registration will be live on or before October 1, and I will notify you as soon as the system is ready to take your team’s entries. Please have your entries in by 4pm on Wednesday, October 18 via SpeechWire. Any changes after that will need to be emailed to me directly at michelle.mcintyre@k12.sd.us. On the day of the tournament, prior to arriving at WHS, please call my cell phone with questions or last-minute changes in entries or judges. My number is 605-359-0524. For those traveling to WHS, if you can text/call with any changes once you are on the bus, we can get any changes taken care of prior to your arrival, to ensure a smooth and timely check in. We are starting a little earlier this year and would like to have everything ready as much as possible to get the event started smoothly. SDHSAA rules govern the events.
