Dear UIL Coordinator/Sponsors:

 

Nederland High School will host its fifteenth annual Bulldog Winter Academic Meet on January 27, 2024.   The meet will be held on the high school campus in Nederland. This letter should answer any questions you have about the meet; however, if you need further information, you may reach Shirley De La Cruz at any of the following numbers:  (409) 727-2741 school or (409) 767-0890 cell.  My email address is sdelacruz@nederlandisd.org.  

 

EVENTS:  We are offering all UIL events excluding Congress Debate. We will try to follow UIL rules as stated in the CONSTITUTION, and we will be using original tests. TMSCA tests will be used for math and science events.

 

DEADLINES:  Entry deadline is Monday, January 22, 2024, by 5:00 P.M.  Entry deadline for CX, LD and Extemp will be Thursday, January 18, 2024, by 5:00 P.M. We will accommodate requests for late entries, if we can.

 

ENTRIESEach school is limited to four (4) entries per event in CX, LD, Computer Applications, Journalism, and Ready Writing. Each school can enter unlimited entries in the other events until we reach maximum capacity. The top scores from each school will be used to calculate team scores in team events.  Entry fees will be $10.00 per event per student (except ready writing, journalism and speaking events). 

 

DROPS:  Drops after 3:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 24, 2024, will forfeit the entry fees Drops for CX and LD after 3:30 P.M. on Friday, January 19, 2024 will forfeit entry fees.   Please advise us of any drops in Extemporaneous Speaking, CX and LD Debate in advance, if possible. 

 

SUBSTITUTIONS:  Substitutions may be made on the day of the contest.  It is the responsibility of the contestant’s coach to make the director of that specific contest aware of the substitution.  If contestants are added, present the contest director with your student’s add slip indicating that he/she has been added to the contest. 

 

FOOD AND SERVICES: We will provide food services in the cafeteria where contestants can purchase a variety of hot foods, snacks, drinks, etc.  Meals for the coaches and bus drivers will be provided in the hospitality room.

 

FACILITIES:  Contests will be held in rooms all over our campus.  The cafeteria will be used as holding areas, available for students who have finished or are in between contests. 

 

RESULTS AND AWARDS:  Results and awards will be announced in the cafeteria as they become available.  We will award medals to the top six places in individual events as well as to first place members of the winning teams.  In speech events, we will only award one set of medals (no divisions).  First and second place sweepstakes trophies for the two schools amassing the most points will be awarded.  (Nederland High School’s students will be competing but will not be eligible for the sweepstakes trophy).

 

JUDGING AND GRADING:  Paid judges will be provided by Nederland High School for all judged events including Journalism. If you would like to judge CX or LD, please let me know. ATTENTION:  All Computer Application teams and Spelling teams MUST provide a grader.  If one is not provided, that school’s papers will NOT be graded and scored.  In addition, all Computer Application contestants must provide their own laptop computers, printers, etc.   Ready Writing contestants must bring their own laptops, printers, and extension cables.

 

GENERAL RULES:

      (1)  Vandalism of any sort will result in disqualification of the entire squad.

      (2)  Please keep all food and drinks in the cafeteria.

      (3)  CD players, radios, etc, may be used with headphones.  Please keep the noise down in the cafeteria

      (4) Nederland ISD will not be held responsible for damage, theft, loss of property or accidents. 

      (5)  Students who are not competing need to remain the cafeteria.
