Welcome to the 2025 Off-Broadway Swing Tournament! We are SO excited to welcome you back to New York and to our campus! Remember, BOTH halves of the swing are at Hofstra University! Please read through all of this carefully and share with all your coaches/judges/students. Much of this info can be found on our Instagram page: @hofstraforensics
The Weather Expect cold temps in the low 40s this weekend. Bring a good winter coat!
Masking Policy Hofstra University has lifted all masking mandates. As such, masking is optional. There are masks available at every entrance in every Hofstra building. We are asking, however, that everyone be considerate and respectful of one’s choice to wear or not wear one.
Registration Registration begins promptly at 8:00am both days in the 1st floor lobby of Breslin Hall. Your GPS should allow you to put Breslin Hall as your destination and will lead you directly to the building. You may park anywhere that is not designated as handicapped parking. We can accept cash, checks and credit/debit card (via form) payments for entry fees. We will have copies of the form at registration. You may pay for both halves on Saturday, if you wish. Receipts and/or invoices can be provided upon request.
Our Campus/Parking You may park anywhere on campus on weekends provided it’s not designated as a handicapped spot.
Hofstra is experiencing record enrollment this semester. As such, classroom space on Saturday is limited. Coaches/students/judges should expect 5 to 7-minute walks to certain buildings. In addition, we’re asking everyone to keep hallway volume down to a minimum on Saturday while classes are in session. Please make sure you have forwarded all accommodation requests to me. Finally, keep in mind the following: • Hofstra University does not permit food or drink in any classrooms. • Hofstra University is a 100% smoke-free campus.

Postings Postings will be in Breslin Hall and Speechwire.
Breakfast We will have a small continental breakfast available each morning with juice, tea, coffee, bagels and pastries.
Lunch Lunch is on your own. I strongly recommend our Student Center. Follow the blue/yellow signs to “Unispan” or “Axinn Library” to get there. All food delivery apps (DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc.) will deliver to Breslin Hall as well.
e-ballots and Wi-Fi We will be using the e-balloting system on Speechwire this year. Judges will need an active Speechwire account and will need to remain logged into that account all day. Students and judges will log into Wi-Fi using “Hofstra Guest” and follow the prompts to set up an account.
Impromptu All judges in Impromptu will need to pick up their prompts from the Information Table prior to their rounds. As is tradition, prompts on both days will have a Broadway theme. Each judge should give students a 15-second reading time before starting the 7-minute prep time.
Extemp Extemp Draw will take place in Breslin 111. We will use the following schemes: Saturday: Round 1 – Domestic, Round 2 – International, Finals – Scenario Sunday: Round 1 – Domestic, Round 2 – Social Justice Issues, Finals - Scenario
IPDA (on Saturday) IPDA will be flighted. Draw will take place in Breslin 105. Debaters MUST be to draw on time and should note: they may be in different flights each round. Since we are rather spread out for Saturday, we suggest striking in Breslin 105 and then leaving enough walking time for you to get to your rooms. For elimination rounds, we will try to move rounds closer to Breslin Hall. Announcements will be made throughout the day. Round 1 - Politics Round 2 - Sports Round 3 - General Social/Social Justice Issues Round 4 - AI and Social Media Bronze - International Hot Spots Gold - Domestic Issues
NPDA (on Sunday) Draw will be in your actual competition room. NPDA judges will need to pick up the resolutions prior to their round at the Information Table.
Quiet Room Should competitors need a quiet space: Saturday: CV Starr 210 Sunday: Brower Hall 204
Open Door Policy To support competitor well-being, this tournament maintains an open-door policy. Competitors may quietly exit the room at any time—before, during, or after any performance—if the content being performed is emotionally triggering or if they need to protect their mental health. Judges, coaches, and other competitors must respect this policy, and no competitor shall be penalized in rankings, speaker points, or evaluation for stepping out. This policy applies to all events and all rounds.
Tabroom The tabroom will be in Breslin 112
