Information and Procedures:

Rules and Guidelines:

1. Both tournaments will use the ethical standards and event descriptions put forth by the AFA-NIET.

2. Semi-Finals will be held for events containing over 50 entries.

3. At the K-State half (day 2), Extemp speaking finalists will be answering a single question. 

4. No materials (including literature and/or speech topics) may have been performed by a student in any competition (high school or college) prior to this academic year. Students in violation of this rule will be disqualified.

5. The use of the Internet, while not encouraged, can be used in Extemp prep. The hosts are not responsible for providing reliable access to the internet. 

 

Fees:

  • Fees for the tournament are $8 per slot.  One judge covers six slots.  We request that you bring ample judges.  To encourage this practice, we will charge an additional $12 for each uncovered entry. 
  • A nuisance fee of $10 per change will be assessed between noon on January 22, 2020 and 5:00pm on January 23, 2020.  Changes made at the tournament or after 5:00pm on the 24 will be assessed a $25 nuisance fee. All drop fees will be in addition to the original entry fee.

 

Points & Awards:

Team points will be awarded according to student’s placement in final rounds (10 points for 1st place, 8 points for 2nd place, 6 points for 3rd place, 4 points for 4th place, 2 points for 5th place, and 1 point for 6th place). 

 

Events:

1. All events entered in the tournament must meet the requirements of the AFA national tournament. 

2. An open division of two flights will be offered. 

3. No student may enter more than three events per flight.

4. Two duos count as two events.

Parking: Free parking is available in the lot down the hill to the east of Nichols Hall.  Much closer, you can use the parking garage next to Nichols Hall, but it will require you to pay.
