The Dakotas Intercollegiate Forensics Committee cordially invites you to the 2020 Dakotas’ Tournament to be held at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD Saturday, February 15 to Sunday, February 16.

Parliamentary Debate:

We will host 5 preliminary rounds of Parliamentary Debate, and outrounds as necessary depending upon entries.  Parli will operate on NPDA times (7-8-8-8-4-5). Teams will have 15 minutes of preparation time after the announcement of the resolution in the competition room.

Individual two-person teams will prepare on their own without the aid of coaches/others. Consistent with current NPDA tournament norms and rules, students can access the Internet during the 15-minute preparation period.

Entry fees are $10/team plus $15 for each uncovered team’s judging fee ($25 for uncovered teams). One judge covers two teams.

Note: a minimum of SIX debate teams will be necessary for the debate portion of the tournament to take place.  Fewer entries will result in cancellation of Parliamentary Debate.

Individual Events:

We offer 3 preliminary rounds of the eleven AFA events. As has been the case in recent years, the tournament will maintain an entry cap of 4 entries per event. Final rounds will be held in categories with entries sufficient for more than one section. At least three ballots will be provided for events with only one section.

Students may enter up to six events, three events per pattern.

Flighting is as follows:

A: Ext, Pro, POI, ADS, Info, Poe

B: Imp, CA, DI, Persuasive, Duo

Fees are $5 per entry slot, $10 per uncovered entry slot. One judge covers six slots. Schools are encouraged to bring enough judges to cover their entries. Fees will be assessed at noon on 02/13. Late entry drops and additions are $15 in addition to the original $5 entry fee. Dropped judge fees are assessed at $50.

Registration will be on SpeechWire.  The entry deadline is Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 5:00pm. Entries are to be submitted to SpeechWire.com.

Details on the tournament location will be provided with logistics closer to the tournament weekend.
