The Subsection 29A contest will be held at Cass Lake-Bena High School, 15308 St Hwy 371 NW, in Cass Lake on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

 

Registration will be done on Speechwire. To help us plan for the contest, please enter a team roster now. We realize that categories and your entrants may change, but entering what you know now will really help us in planning for judges and scheduling. Also, please enter your coaches under the judges tab, but leave them UNSPECIFIED so that they're not scheduled into JUDGING. This will help in assigning timer and other duties for the contest. 

 

You must finalize your registration by Friday, March 27th at 4:00 p.m. Please seed your speakers in each category with 1 being your best and 4 your least. This will help us plan for competitions in multiple sections. If there are any questions about these instructions, please email me or call my cell phone: (218) 760-9675. Please identify yourself if you text, or leave a voicemail with identification if you call so I am clear about who I'm talking with. 

 

Upon arrival at the Subsection contest, please furnish the following items:

1) A copy of each Original Oratory

2) A copy of each Creative Expression

3) A copy of each Informative Speech, and

4) Title, author, source, and copy of manuscript for each Great Speech

5) A copy of your completed Community Standards form.

 

Please bring a check for $15.00 per competitor (duos are TWO). Make the check payable to Region 8A. 

Please bring a reliable method of timing, as some of you will be asked to time rounds, and/or provide a time for rounds.

 

You need to arrive at Cass Lake-Bena High School between 3:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Please drop students off in the front of the building. Busses may park in the south parking lot or on the street. Bus drivers are welcome in the Coaches Lounge.  Students may go directly to the commons which will be in the multipurpose room. Schedules should be available soon upon arrival. 

 

There are four time lines (subject to change if final numbers call for fewer categories with finals):

Flight 1 = Round 1: 4:00 Draw / 4:30 p.m. Speak

Flight 2 = Round 2: 5:30 Draw / 6:00 p.m. Speak

Flight 3 = Finals 1/Round 3: Draw 7:00 / 7:30 p.m. Speak

Flight 4 = Finals/Round 3: 8:45 p.m.

 

Awards: 10 p.m. Based on registration, this timeline may change. Not all categories will present at the same time in all rounds.

 

There will be a concession stand available for students.

 

A meal and snacks will be served in the Coaches and Judges Lounge.
