Good Morning!

Registration for Nat Quals is opening today!  You should be receiving an email shortly from Speechwire letting you know that it is open.  If you do not receive a message, please let Mike Trevithick know.  Contact him at:  speech@mullenhigh.com

In terms of basic logistical information:
Doubling Entering:  Competitors can double enter.  The exceptions are: No double entering in two debate events and competitors cannot double enter in both Domestic and International Extemp.
We encourage you to bring as many competitors as you are allowed; that way we can try to reach the 30 entry threshold allowing us to qualify THREE competitors to Nationals!

Copies of Oratory and Info Speeches: These speeches must be brought to the tournament and handed in at registration. All quoted words should be underlined/highlighted and there should be a quoted word count at the bottom of each page and a total word count at the end of the speech. Please remember that there cannot be any more than 150 quoted words in the speech.  The speech should be signed by both the competitor and coach attesting to the fact that this is the student's original work and that the word count does not accede 150 words.

Interp Scripts:  Make sure you bring the interp script in its entirety.  This means you need to have a clean, typed version that references the page numbers that each line can be found in the original text. In other words, you do not need to go as far as you would if you were submitting a script to the NSDA for Nationals which requires photo copying the original and highlighting all the lines sequentially.  You just need to make sure the lines are referenced with page numbers that correspond to the original script. The original also needs to be on site as well.

Judges:  We need roughly 60 judges on site both days of the competition.  The burden of acquiring judges cannot fall on a few schools or a few individuals.  Everyone needs to help with this effort so please start finding judges now!  It is especially hard to get judges Friday evening, but we really need them in order to shorten the duration of the tournament on Saturday. We do ask that any judges you do bring, have experience with judging and are not brand new to the activity. We want to run efficiently, but also fairly.  Please email the names of your judges and what events they can judge to Anna Steed at asteed@striveprep.org  Also indicate their availability so Anna can keep track of how many we have throughout the event.

Schedule:  We will aim to start rounds at 4:45 pm on Friday, February 21.  Please plan on arriving at Regis between 3:30 and 4:00 for registration.  We plan on running two rounds of everything Friday evening
Because we have moved to the "Pilot" qualification process, we are running 4 preliminary rounds of all events, including debate with subsequent break rounds.  Two more prelim rounds will happen on Saturday morning and then breaks will happen in the afternoon.  The number of break rounds will depend on the number of entries in each event. Regardless of the number of entries, in Speech events,  we will clear 40% of the entries to break rounds and in debate, all 3-1 debaters/teams will advance.  I do not want to overwhelm you with too much information right now, so I will send out a more detailed idea of what the schedule might look like later.  Regardless, our ability to run a tournament that adheres to any kind of schedule at all, depends on JUDGES!!!!!  I can also detail the elim round scenarios in a later email as well.

I am sure I am overlooking some detail, but want to get this out so you can begin registering.  Let me know how I can help.

Thank you,

Maryrose
