Dear Forensic Coach,

Here at Hortonville High School we are excited to extend the invitation for your team to join us at our Forensic Tournament on February 8, 2020.  Now that Impromptu is offered as a regular category with the WFCA, we no longer offer our bonus consolation category during final rounds, but we have continued to offer the special NCFL category of Oratorical Declamation for freshmen and sophomore competitors during regular rounds.

Entries

At this point there is no limit on entries.  Varsity teams will be noted during registration on SpeechWire.  If you have students who would like to be double or triple-entered, they will count as two or three entries.

Categories/Double and Triple-Entering

Double and triple-entering and will be allowed, except in the categories of Extemporaneous Speaking and Radio Speaking, with a reminder that ALL students are responsible for making it to all rounds on time.  In recent years, we've noticed coaches have still been double-entering in the exclusionary categories noted above when signing students up online - so I'd like to reiterate that accommodations for these students will NOT be made during the tournament, so please abide by the tournament rules. As in past years, we will still be offering Oratorical Declamation in regular rounds, but since Oratorical Declamation is only available for freshmen and sophomores, as the NCFL rules stipulate, please abide by that expectation as well.

Fees

Entry fees are $8.00 per individual event and $12.00 per Play Acting, Duo Interpretation, and Group Interpretation entry.  Unless you drop or cancel 48 hours prior to the tournament, you will be responsible to pay the fees of the entries you registered.

Judges

Each school must bring one qualified judge per five entries or fraction thereof.  Regardless of drops, you are responsible to bring AT LEAST the number of judges as you indicated on Monday during registration, the week of the tournament.  A limited number of judges may be available for hire at $125 each.

Awards

Individual gold, silver, and bronze medals with ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.  All finalists not placing will receive smaller medals without ribbons.  Team trophies will be awarded to the top two schools in all three categories. These are the designations: large team (20-25 entries), medium team (13-19 entries) and small team (5-12 entries).  As has become our tradition, the team trophies are cups that will be filled with Valentines candy, to be shared and enjoyed by the winning team’s members.

Rules

All WFCA (or NCFL for Oratorical Dec) rules will be followed.  Please note changes in categories from last year.

Food

Concessions food will be served in our large commons gathering space. Please note that we need all students to eat in the high school commons area so the power rounds start on time and since that is where we will be posting results. Food for the judges and coaches will be served in G135 (Judges Lounge/TAB room).

Entry Deadline

Please submit your entries on SpeechWire by 4:00pm on Monday, February 3rd.  If you struggle with the process, you can contact me at annebrahe@hasd.org. You will be able to make changes on your own registration through SpeechWire until Friday, February 7th at noon. A confirmation email will be sent out the week of the tournament, but remember that you can view your entries and invoice at any time using SpeechWire.

Confirmation

Please remember to confirm your entries on Saturday morning before 7:30 a.m.  Schedules will not be run until we hear from ALL teams.  Don’t be the team that delays the tournament.

Please text 920-740-6518 to confirm your entries before 7:30am!

When I receive your text, I will message back a confirmation.  If you do not receive a confirmation within 5-10 minutes and are concerned, please text my assistant coach Amanda Brill at (715) 579-3342 and she will see that the information reaches me.  Do not call the main number at the school – you will not reach anyone as our TAB room does not base out of the high school office.

Questions

If you have any questions prior to the tournament, I can be reached at my classroom phone number (920)779-7933 x13221, my cell phone (920) 740-6518, or by e-mail at annebrahe@hasd.org

Schedule

Registration will begin at 7:30am, draw is at 8:15am and Round One for all events will be 8:45am  If all goes well, awards will be at 2:45pm (if not earlier…especially without having the impromptu consolation rounds this year!)

Registration will be held in G135 (our judges’ lounge).  Students can congregate in our commons.  There will be signs as you enter our main entrance in the parking lot on Warner Street.  This will be the ONLY entrance open due to increased school security measures.  Schedules will be posted in the commons for students (will need to write them down) and in the judges’ lounge for judges once all entries are confirmed.

We hope you can attend, and we look forward to seeing you on the 8th of February!
