Dear Forensics Coach,

 

The Watertown High School and Luther Preparatory School Forensics teams invite you and your team to the Rock River Forensics Tournament at Watertown High School.

 

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2020 at Watertown High School. Our goal is to help teams get the ball rolling for the upcoming competition season. We are prepared to offer a professionally-run, fun and exciting day of competition.

 

Special Notes

-We are allowing students to double enter in the tournament in all events. This will allow motivated students the opportunity to compete in two events.

-We’ll be using the SpeechWire registration and tabulation software system. To register your team, visit: www.speechwire.com

 

Rules

WFCA rules will be used for all events (For a list of rules see www.wfcaforensics.org) . Please note that allowances will be made for difference in WHSFA rules. Those rule differences can be found here.

 

Schedule

7:30-8:15   Registration

8:30         Radio/Extemp Draw Begins in the Media Center

8:30         Student Meeting in the Auditorium AND Judges Meeting in the library

9:00         Round I

10:15       Round II

11:30       Round III

1:30         Power Rounds Begin

3:00         Awards in Auditorium

 

Awards

Trophies will be presented to the top three competitors and medals to the remaining finalists.  Team trophies will be awarded to schools in two divisions using the breakdown below.

 

Large School: 16-25 entries, based on total points

Small School: 6-15 entries, based on team average

 

Food

The WHS Forensics Boosters will have breakfast and lunch for sale.

 

 

Deadlines

·         Please register via SpeechWire by Friday, January 10th by 5:00 pm.

·         Teams can and should manage their own drops on Speechwire.com until 4:00pm, Friday, January 17th. After that point, email drops to krogmalg@lps.wels.net or lobensteinh@watertown.k12.wi.us at your earliest possible convenience.

·         Entries dropped after 4:00 PM on Friday will still be charged.

·         Day of tournament drops are strongly discouraged. Please call-in or text last minute drops as soon as possible on tournament day to Lucas Krogmann at 920-296-6571 or Hillary Lobenstein 920-262-7500 ext. 6228. You're strongly encouraged to thoroughly complete coach’s information including coach’s cell phone # on SpeechWire, so tournament personnel can call you in case a member of your team fails to check-in by 8:15am.

 

Fees

A fee of $9.00 for each individual entry and $12 for group entries (Duo, Group Interp, Play Acting). Entry fees are per entry, not per student. Fees will be based on your confirmed entry.

 

Judges

Each school must provide one judge for every five entries or portion of five entries. Each duo, group interp or play acting is considered one entry. Please try to bring your own quality judges. Your judge commitment will be based on your entry as of Thursday, January 16th. We will have hired judges available for you at a cost of $100 per judge. Teams with over 50 entries/10 judges are required to hire judges from the tournament. Total entries are not capped.

 

Entries

Your top 25 entries will count toward team scores with a maximum of four entries per event. Additional entries are welcome. Students are allowed to enter two events.

·         Please register via Speechwire.com no later than 5:00pm, Friday, January 10th. If you encounter any problems with the online registration, don't hesitate to email lobensteinh@watertown.k12.wi.us or krogmalg@lps.wels.net. A registration confirmation will be emailed out after registration closes. Coaches can also view up-to-the minute fees on Speechwire.com.

·         Note on Varsity/Novice designation: When prompted to enter a student’s division, please use varsity for all competitors. There will not be a separate award or division for novice speakers.

 

Parking Information at Watertown High School

WHS will be busy with a forensics meet and gymnastics meet on Saturday. Please view this map to help your bus driver park in the correct location on Saturday. A map for parking can be found here.
