The Concordia University Speech and Debate Team invites you and your team to the CUNE High School Speech Classic to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020.  The tournament will offer all nine Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) events, as well as Impromptu and POI. Registration will begin at 7:00am, with the first round of events at 8:00am and first Extemp Draw at 8:30am

Events will be divided into two flights.  Flight A events will include serious prose, persuasive speaking, duet acting, poetry, and impromptu.  Flight B events will include extemp, informative, oral interpretation of drama, POI, humorous prose and entertainment speaking.  We are limiting entries to six per event per school.  Each student may participate in two events per flight.  Awards will be given for all finalists in each event’s final round. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools.  Additionally, with the support of our Admissions office, we are able to offer speech scholarships to top students who are interested in continuing their education and speech career at Concordia University, Nebraska.

NSAA rules will be followed on all events, with 60-minute prep in Extemp. Impromptu contestants will be given a choice of quotations for round one, round two, and either a set of quotations or an object for the final round. The student may prep for 2-3 minutes to give a 4-6 minute speech. Total time is not to exceed nine minutes. POI will follow the rules outlined by the NSDA.

The fees for the tournament will be $7 per covered entry and $12 (total) for each uncovered entry. Additionally, Lunch will be available in the Janzow dining hall. Meal tickets for lunch can be purchased on speechwire for $9.50 per ticket. *I understand this is steep but there are also many vending machines around campus that have a wide selection of beverages and refreshments.
