The Staley and Winnetonka High School speech and debate teams cordially invites your team to participate in the 2020 Northland February Forum.  This year, Staley will host the novice tournament, while our friends at Park Hill High School host varsity divisions at the Crabtree Classic. The tournament will be held on Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st. There will be two preliminary Individual Event rounds on Friday, followed by semifinals and finals rounds on Saturday.  Congressional Debate will hold two preliminary rounds on Friday, followed by a single supersession on Saturday. All debaters will be guaranteed five rounds of competition, two on Friday and three on Saturday. There will not be debate “out rounds,” we will power match throughout the tournament and place the top eight entries per the tournament rules listed in the invitation. 

 

Speech Events: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Poetry, Prose and Children's Storytelling.

 

Debate Events: Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate.

 

We will be using the December NSDA Congress Legislation.

 

Debate Events will be using the following resolutions:

Public Forum - Resolved: The United States should end its economic sanctions against Venezuela.

LD - Resolved: States ought to eliminate their nuclear arsenals.

Policy - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.
