Dear Speech Coach(es),

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 11th Annual Whirlwind Speech Invite, hosted at Orchard, that will be held on January 18, 2020.  We hope to provide you and your students with a day of quality competition, learning, and fun!

 

As our Novice numbers have been SO LOW in the past few years, the competition will be Varsity ONLY.  The format will be two preliminary and a finals round with events of ten or more entries.  The top six entries in each event will receive medals.  A sweepstakes award will be presented to the top varsity teams.

 

The fee for each entry will be $7.00 (individual events) and $14.00 (group events).  For every six entries, you must provide one judge to cover them.  For each uncovered slot, a fee of $15.00 will be charged to overall entry.  Please make an attempt to bring judges with you as our pool of experienced judges is limited.

 

Registration will take place via Speechwire; if you have any issues please contact me as soon as possible! Entries will need to be entered until January 16, 2020 @ 4:00 p.m.  Entry fees are frozen at this time.

8:00 Round 1A 

8:30 Extemp Draw  Round 1

9:15 Round 1B 

10:30  Round 2A 

11:00 Extemp Draw-Round 2

11:45 Round 2B 

1:00 Finals Varsity Flight A 

1:30 Extemp Draw Finals (if needed)

2:00 Finals Varsity Flight B 

4:00 (or ASAP) Awards in Gymnasium

 

We are currently making arrangements for a concession stand. Lunch will be provided for coaches and judges in the hospitality room (FCS Room).   

 

As the speech season will be just in its beginning stages, we ask that competitors consider this meet a learning opportunity.  It is then requested, as a common courtesy, that unless a competitor is double entered or has to draw for extemp, all speakers in a round stay and watch the entire round as considerate audience members.  The common area will be the gym. Socializing and music should be kept to a minimum and monitored by speech coaches.
