***Impromptu the draw will occur in the rooms.  The students will have a total of seven minutes.  They can use the time as they wish. For example They can prep for two minutes and speak for five minutes, or they can prep for 4 minutes and speak for three.

***Please Note we are not offering Congressional Debate ***

Registration: All registration will occur at www.speechwire.com Registrations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will close registration when the tournament fills.

We will use all current NSDA (NFL) topics in each of the debates.

INTERNET WILL BE ALLOWED IN BOTH EXTEMP AND DEBATE
please note, while the DPS guest network is very reliable, we will not be responsible for students connection to the internet.

Doubling Rules:
CX, PF, and LD Debaters may not double-enter.
Students in non-extemp speech events may triple enter. Students are responsible for making it to their rounds in a timely manner . Extempers may double enter, but may lose prep time.

*Debate will run on it's own track*

Currently we hope to run events in one wave, but based on entry numbers we may have to wave events.

JV/Varsity CX Rules:
Varsity CX Debate is open to all CX Debate teams.
JV CX is limited to freshmen and sophomore CX Debaters or students in their first year of competition.
In JV CX, no Kritiks or counterplans are allowed.
In JV CX, we will employ the NFHS Novice case limits.

Entry Numbers:

SCHEDULE
Registration will take place on Friday, November 8th from 3:00pm to 3:30pm.  The first wave of rounds will begin at 4pm.   Saturday, November 9th – rounds are scheduled to begin at 8:00am.
PLEASE CALL IN DROPS ON FRIDAY BEFORE REGISTRATION BEGINS

BREAKING & FINALS IN DEBATE

At the conclusion of the fifth preliminary round, all undefeated teams will advance to the quarter (see the tie-breaking scheme below). We will have three judge panels in break rounds and winners advance. We WILL NOT BREAK THE BRACKET.  The policy of the tournament is that the higher seed rolls over the lower seed if both teams are from the same school.

Tie-breaks will be determined by 1) W-L record, 2) Strength of Opposition, 3) Speaker Points 4) Speaker Ranks (CX/PF)

Fees and Payment:
The entry fee will be $20.00 per student in event, based upon the pre-registration numbers on Friday, November 3rd. Note: At a normal three round tournament, you will pay between $10 and $12 an entry, this works out to 3.34 to $4.00 a round.  Because we are offering five preliminary rounds, we are equating that to $4.00 a round you are paying for.
Changes in pre-registration will be reflected in the final entry fees if made via the web site by November 1st.   After that time, net increases in entries will result in increases in final entry fees, while net decreases in entries will not reduce your final entry fees. Please make checks payable to Kent Denver School. Please mail payment to Ian Hopkins , Kent Denver, 4000 E Quincy Ave Englewood, CO 80113.

Judging:
We are changing our judge fees and requirements this year.  We are increasing the fees while simultaneously raising the ratio of entries to judges. Simply put, You will be required to bring LESS judges, but not bringing those judges will cost you MORE.  We would much rather have your diverse, well-trained judges, than your money

Updated on October 24th!
The New Ratios

1 judge for every 12 entries
Please note that this year any type of judge will fill a judge requirement.  We may move to a specific judge type in future tournamets if we find certain events hard to staff with approproate judges.

The tournament will be paying all judges who are not fulfilling a team's requirements $10 a round in cash.

Awards:
We will provide awards for all competitors who break to quarterfinals or better.

DETERMINATION OF TEAM AWARDS
We will be offering both Large entry and Small entry sweepstakes awards this year.  We will release closer to the tournament the numbers so you know where your program lands.
•    All Events and Debate:
o    1st Place = 6pts; 2nd place = 5pts; 3rd Place = 4pts; 4th Place = 3pts; 5th Place = 2pts; 6th Place = 1pt    Qtr finalists 1 pt in Debate, Semi-finalists in Debate and Speech – 2pts

Please know it's our hope to have a place for all students who want to compete. This may mean that we run long, late days we ask for your patience and understanding that this may be the only way to open this opportunity for all. In addition, if there is other things preventing your students from being able to participate please reach out and let us know and we will see what we can do to help eliminate that hurdle. We believe these activities are amazing and we want to make sure they are available to all.

We would love to see you in November!!
