2019 Pumpkin Fest!
Varsity Speech/Debate Tournament
Lee's Summit High School

Lee's Summit, MO

OCTOBER 25-26, 2019

EVENTS AVAILABLE:

Speech Events: IX, USX, OO, INF, CONG
Dramatics Events: HI, DI, DUO, POI, ST
Debate Events: CCX, RCX, CLD, RLD, CPF, RPF, (BQ as consolation???)

ENTRY REGISTRATION NOTES:

1. All entries are forced to the waitlist. Do not be alarmed! I do this so that I can approve the exact number of entries for which I can adequately host. Be patient with your entries, especially if you request a lot.

2. There is no maximum or minimum to the number of entries you can request. I try to share the love to as many schools as possible first, then I try to accept all the entries that I can.

3. Entries dropped after 11:59 pm on Wednesday, Oct 23, will be chaged a $5.00 nuisance fee (but not the original entry fee). Entries may be added to the waitlist at any time with no additional fees.

4. Registration is never "closed." Please make all changes to your entry registration as needed, at any time, day or night. This includes the day of registration.

5. If you decide to send an assistant coach and/or sponsor to us for the tourney, please train them in how to use the registration and entry tracking tools in SpeechWire. This makes everyone's lives much easier.

Other Items of Importance:

A. On Friday, please try not to arrive before 2:35 p.m. Our buses depart around 2:31 and the parking lot is a madhouse until about 2:35. It's in everyone's best interest to just stay away from that. If you need to arrive before 2:35 p.m., please have your bus wait in the far east lot by the soccer fields (there's an entrance on 291 Hwy and Bayberry Ln). At 2:35 p.m., you may have your driver pull around to the west side of campus and drop off at the Fieldhouse.

B. Student commons is the Cafeteria. Please be patient with our custodial staff if you arrive before 3:00 p.m. They will do their best to have the cafeteria set up by the time you arrive, but might still be working when you show up.

C. On Saturday, LSHS hosts the ACT, which locks down our B Building completely. Therefore, we run IE Sems and Finals Saturday morning, and start Round 3 of Debate at approximately 1:00 p.m. Please be patient with us on the start time of Round 3 of Debate: we cannot get into B Building until the ACT coordinator gives us the all clear.

D. If you would like a lot of entries to my tournament, please help us out by bringing a school judge, or two, or even three. I'll even throw in a little bit of a discount on entry fees if you bring some judges. You can just email me the names of the people you are bringing.

E. All coaches are on standby to judge some rounds. Please help us out when needed (we will try to let you know at registration if and when we would need you the most). We will limit any one coach to judging no more than two total rounds during the weekend. I don't like to have coaches judge more than any other hosting coach, but here's the deal: I have 44 kids on my team, so requiring them to find enough judges to host as big of a tournament as we'd like to host is just not appropriate for me. We'll do what we can.

F. Hospitality will be in the Lecture Hall, which is directly across from the stairs that lead down to the Cafeteria. This is also where the Judge Room is located.

G. Tab is located in the LMC, which is located in the far SE corner of Building A. There are comfy chairs and lots of space to spread out! If we decide to host BQ as a consolation event Saturday morning, we may use some of the LMC for that purpose.

H. Concessions is located in the Cafeteria.

I. Congress Legislation: Use the October 2019 NSDA Congress Legislation. I've uploaded it in the files section.

J. We are the Pumpkin Fest Varsity Invitational! Please join us in a contest of schools! As a team, decorate your table with pumpkin/fall decor. The winning team will get a prize!

K. I like pumpkin bread and pumpkin cake. No cloves, no raisins. But I am easy to befriend with good food. Just sayin'.   :)
