This information is from a tournament in a past season!

This is a High School tournament in Illinois.

Please bring one judge for every six entries with a maximum of six judges.
Radio will prep twice for prelims and once for finals
Extemp will prep one speech for prelim round and prep for finals. ( 2 prep for
prelims, [choose best for 3 rd round], 1 prep for finals). 30-min prep.
Please submit at least ten Extemp and Impromptu topics with your preliminary
entry.
Preliminary entries must be received no later than Monday, December 2, 2019
Entry Fees:
1-14 entries – $175
15-28 entries - $200
29-42 - $250
43+ - $300 and extra judges.

Judging: Each team will need to provide the following number of judges based on
individual entries:
1-6 Entries:   1 judge
7-12 Entries:  2 judges
13-18 Entries: 3 judges
19-24 Entries: 4 judges
25-30 Entries: 5 judges
31-36 Entries: 6 judges
37-42 Entries: 7 judges
43-48 Entries: 8 judges
 
Also, to assure proper coverage, please advise all hired judges that they must stay
the entire day regardless of how many contestants if any form your team qualifies
for the Final Round.
*Please supply your judges with stopwatches for Impromptu Speaking.

8 AM – Round A

8:45 AM –Radio Prep prelims
 
9:00 AM – Extemp Prep prelims
 
9:30 AM – Round B

11:00 AM – Round C
(Round 2 DI, ES, HDA, IDA, IMP, OC, OD, POE, RS; Round 3 DDA, OO, PRO)
 
12:30 PM – Round B
(Round 3 DI, DP, HDA, HI, IDA, IMP, INF, OC, OD, POE, SOS)
 
1:00 PM – Final posting- extemp/radio
 
1:30 PM – Final prep Extemp/Radio, posting other events
 
2:15 PM – Finals All Events
 
4:30 PM – Awards
 
Entries: Final names and numbers by Monday, December 2, 2019. You will only
have the ability to drop after that point. Email me, ppeters@d128.k12.il.us, with any questions.
 
Drops: Final drops on Speechwire.com will be Friday, December 6 th at 9 p.m. Please
email last minute drops to ppeters@d128.k12.il.us or text (708) 491-6298 after 9 p.m.
 
Have your buses plan to drop students off in the back parking lot by the football
field and teams need to enter at Door 12. Buses need to park in the back parking lot.
Buses MUST pick teams up in the back parking lot by the football field at Door 12.
 
Concessions will be open all day for breakfast and lunch with walking tacos,
sandwiches, and pizza.
 
If your team is unable to attend due to weather conditions please let me know as
soon as possible. You will still be responsible for the number of judges you were to
supply based on your original entries. If you are unable to send your judges, I will
supply them at a fee of $125 for the day, regardless of number of rounds.

John Snow and Daenerys Targaryen Duo Poetry Interpretation Event (DuoPo):
(WILL NOT COUNT FOR TEAM POINTS)  

 
Definition:  A duo partner oral interpretation of poetry
 
Purpose: To acquaint students with the genre and the application of the principles of oral interpretation in a duet shared format 
 
Material:  Material must come from appropriate sources and must meet the high standards of quality poetic literature.  Compilations are permittable.  Duo partners will prepare a program of two or more poems drawn from more than one source, written in rhymed or unrhymed meter or cadence of some regularity.
 
Time limit:  8 minutes
Time Penalty:  For each full 30 seconds of overtime a contestant’s rank will be lowered by one place. 
 
Props: The script (poetry book) will be held by both partners.  The poetry book may be used as a prop by the duo; synchronization and use of the poetry book between the partners should be appropriate to the text.
 
Presentation:  Performance by the partners should include a shared introduction that is written by the students to contextualize the performances and state the title of their program, poem titles and authors that are being interpreted.  The introduction should be included in the total presentation time. Partners should have eye contact with the audience; voices, clear and direct and the volume adequate.  Partners should not touch one another, and synchronized movement is encouraged.  Bodily movement should be apropos to their program pieces.  Total effect should be real and genuine rather than artificial and mechanical.

Littlefinger and Tyrion Improvisational Duet Acting (IDA):
(WILL NOT COUNT FOR TEAM POINTS)
 
Event Rules and Requirements
 
Description:
 
IDA is an improvised acting exercise composed of two students who portray and create an original scene after drawing the subjects. The scene should establish two characters, a situation or problem, and a solution to the conflict.
 
Topics:
 
Each IDA team will draw three topics that include each of the following areas: characters, conflict/problem, and setting/location. From the three topics drawn, each IDA team shall choose one on which to build their improv scene.  Topics will be generic in nature requiring improvisation and not impersonation.
 
The drawings for topics shall be held in the same room in which they perform.  No printed matter, notes, manuscripts or other media may be used.
 
Rules:
 
1. Each IDA team will have 3 minutes to prepare.
 
2. The IDA will be 5 - 6 minutes in length. This includes an introduction. Time limits are observed.
 
3. An actor may portray only one character throughout the six minute presentation.
No additional characters can be used for the introduction.
 
4. A brief narrated introduction shall be used in establishing the setting, conflict,  characters in the scene.
 
5. All dialogue must be the original work of the contestants.
 
6. Stage properties (props) or costumes shall be prohibited with the exception of two chairs and a table. This includes your clothes, hair, jewelry, shoes, pockets, etc. . . .
