Bishop Noll Speech is proud to invite you to our November Tournament! We are stoked. 

 

The Bishop Noll Speech Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019.  Preliminary registration is due on Monday, November 11, by 5:00 P.M, CST.  Registration will be from 7:00-7:20 am CST outside the Media Center.  Extemp draw will start at 7:45 am CST and rounds will begin at 8:00 am CST. Extemp round 1 will start at 8:15 am CST. When entering the building, please use the "A" door (it's the entrance with the blue awning). Teams will camp out in the cafeteria. 

 

You may bring up to 4 entries per event.  We will run four straight rounds. Teams are capped at 40 entries. We will have all 14 IHSFA events. ***As it is still early in the season, if you have more than 4 entries in an event, please email me, I will try to accommodate. Be aware, only 4 entries per event will count towards sweepstakes trophies. In the same vein, if you have more than 40 entries, email me, I will do my best to accommodate, but again, only 40 entries will count towards sweepstakes trophies. (kburgun@bishopnoll.org)*** 

 

Please bring one qualified judge, willing to write informative critiques, for every five entries or fraction thereof.  All judges are obligated to stay until all fourth rounds start.

 

Contestants may double. Up to three students on a team may triple. No doubling will be allowed in Discussion. No tripling will be allowed in Discussion or Extemp. Both duo partners (OP Duos included) may double. If you are doubling in two partner events, you must double only with the same partner for both events.  Students double / triple at their own risk. 

 

Radio information will be posted by November 12, 2019. Bishop Noll does not have an official radio room, or equipment. The way we do radio is we have the speaker sit in the room with the judge, but the speaker's back is to the judge. We will do a prepared newscas, an "on the spot", and a "breaking news". In what has become our tradition, the "breaking news" will be original news copy from an imaginary land. 

 

Extemp topics will be taken from current events.  Extempers will draw for Rounds 1 & 3 only.  Thirty minutes prep time.  Round 2 will be round 1 prepped speech. Round 4 will be round 3 prepped speech. All extempers are to report to the prep room by 7:45 am CST. 

 

Discussion Topics will be posted November 12. 

 

Impromptu will be flex prep - seven minutes. 

 

Ribbons will be given to the top six individuals in all events.  Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top five schools.  Bishop Noll will not be eligible for a sweepstakes trophy. 

 

Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria.  Please encourage your team to purchase lunch and snacks. It's how we are able to host a tournament! If we are not making money, then we will not be able to host in the future. We count on each speaker spending $3-$5 on lunch and snacks. Give or take. There will be free food and beverage in the judge's lounge for judges and coaches. Please discourage your judges and coaches from taking the free food and bringing it to your competitors. Thank you. 

 

***EXTRA FUN: Our varsity team is working hard on creating a special lip sync battle to take place after 4th round while tab is taking place. More information to follow soon. ***

 

*** EXTRA FUN 2: We will have ping pong tables in the cafeteria to pass the time between rounds. Friendly competition is encouraged. ***

 

*** EXTRA FUN 3: We will have a special "photo booth" to celebrate speech in Indiana. We will encourage posting on social media and using hashtags. Please review your school's social media policy in case this would be discouraged or not allowed for your school. ***

 

*** EXTRA FUN 4: Well this one is secret. I can't tell you what it will be. But I hope it will be pretty cool. Or maybe it will be a failure. But you know what? I tried. And isn't that important?***

 

We hope to start awards by 2:17 pm CST.

Students are asked to not enter a competition room until the judge is present. 

 

Most competition rooms will be on the third floor of the building. If you are bringing a student or judge who needs access to our elevator, please send us an e-mail so we can arrange to have a key for the speaker or judge. 

 

There is an event after our tournament in the cafeteria on the 16. While our team will stay and clean, the more you can be aware of your space in the cafeteria in terms of trash and food would be appreciated!!! 

 

Please make sure to e-mail any drops to kburgun@bishopnoll.org by 7:00 am CST the morning of the tournament. We prefer e-mail.   There will not be any drops to pick up on the day of the tournament.
