Broward MAST #5
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a Middle School tournament in Florida. View manager contact information
Welcome to the 5th MAST of the year! I hope all of your debaters are ready for an incredible competitive experience on January 14th, 2020 at Stoneman Douglas High School (thanks Jacob Abraham and Douglas Students/Parents)!
Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN. Entries beyond those numbers will go on a waitlist. If space at Stoneman Douglas High School permits, students will be released off of the waitlist after registration closes on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on MONDAY, JANUARY 13th at 12pm NOON. You will be permitted to make changes (drops or name changes) until 12pm on Tuesday, January 14th. Any changes after that, please text Megan West: 940.206.3806 or Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event. Any HIDDEN DROPS (drops that go unreported by the start of the tournament) will cost the school $25 per drop, to be invoiced and paid before the next MAST.
All competitors should arrive between 1:00-1:30. NOBODY can arrive before 1:00! ANYONE who arrives after 1:45 will need to wait off campus until Douglas completes their dismissal, which will delay the beginning of the tournament. Entrance is on the east side of the school for cars and buses. All students, coaches, and judges will go to the auditorium upon arrival. After Douglas' dismissal is complete, students will then be escorted to the cafeteria and judges will go to the media center in order to begin the tournament.
Safety & Security:
For PF, the JANUARY topic will be used - Resolved: The United States should end its economic sanctions against Venezuela.

In addition, at the MASTs all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/2018-2019-novice-packet
Extemp topic areas will be "Humanitarian Aid" and "the Middle East", and Impromptu topic areas will be "New Beginnings" and "Civil Rights".
Congress legislation for the spring semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The spring legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which months, with 4 bills per month. Per usual, chambers might not debate all 4 bills if time does not allow.
More information may be sent out as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions about the process.
*REMINDER FOR PRIVATE AND CHARTER SCHOOLS: Please remember to email Megan and Justin with how many tournaments you will be attending this year so that an invoice can be generated for you.
