Welcome to the 3rd MAST of the year! I hope all of your debaters are ready for an incredible competitive experience on November 21st, 2019 at Piper High School (thanks Jon Williamson and Piper Students/Parents)!

Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Due to space constraints, we will have to decrease the entry limit to THREE entries in each event other than Congress, where we're increasing the entry limit to FIFTEEN. Please enter your students in order with this in mind, also keeping in mind that while you can enter students on the wait list, there's a very good chance that we won't have enough space to let them off of the wait list.If space at Piper High School permits, students will be released off of the waitlist after registration closes on a first-come, first-served basis. Rest assured that we are hard at work to create solutions to alleviate the space issues.

Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19th at 5pm. You will be permitted to make changes (drops or name changes) until 12pm on Thursday, November 21st. Any changes after that, please text Megan West: 940.206.3806 or Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event. Any HIDDEN DROPS (drops that go unreported by the start of the tournament) will cost the school $25 per drop, to be invoiced and paid before the next MAST.

All competitors should arrive between 1:30-2:15. NOBODY can arrive before 1:30! ANYONE who arrives after 2:15 will need to wait off campus until Piper completes their dismissal, which will delay the beginning of the tournament.  Entrance is on the north side of the school for cars and buses. All students, coaches, and judges will go to the auditorium upon arrival. Parent judges who are arriving separately from their school will need to check in at the single point of entry and then proceed to the auditorium. After Piper's dismissal is complete, students will then be escorted to the cafeteria and judges will go to the media center adjacent to the cafeteria in order to begin the tournament.

Safety & Security:
  • All competitors, judges, and coaches MUST visibly wear and display the identifying lanyards and/or badges provided. Check your email for distribution information. Anyone not wearing their lanyard and/or badge will be asked to leave the campus. High school student judges should be given lanyards from their coach.
  • No competitor may enter a room until the judge arrives, and if they're waiting for a judge longer than 15 minutes they should send a representative to the media center to let the tab room know.
  • No competitors may wander around the school. They must either be in rounds or in the cafeteria.
  • Current BCPS Security Policy reiterates the importance of consistent supervision of students by their coach/chaperone. ALL coaches MUST wait until all of their students have left campus via approved transportation before they can leave Piper. Failure to adhere to this rule will preclude a team from future MAST participation.

For PF, the NOVEMBER/DECEMBER topic will be used - Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms.

Congress legislation for the fall semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The fall legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which months, with 4 bills per month. Per usual, chambers might not debate all 4 bills if time does not allow.

More information may be sent out as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions about the process.

*REMINDER FOR PRIVATE AND CHARTER SCHOOLS: Please remember to email Megan and Justin with how many tournaments you will be attending this year so that an invoice can be generated for you.
