Steve Kirkpatrick Memorial Speech Tournament

Concord High School--November 23, 2019

The Concord High School Speech Team invites you to our annual speech tournament.  We will offer all 14 IHSFA speech events as well as Congress and follow IHSFA rules, unless otherwise specified. Please make sure to read through all of the following information carefully. It will be a full day of competition. ALL TIMES LISTED ARE EDT.

Speech Meet Information

Speech Registration: 8:00-8:30am in front of the Media Center. Extemp Prep starts at 8:45am with round 1 in all events starting at 9:15am.

Entries: Varsity and Novice divisions with a maximum of 8 per speech event divided between the 2 divisions. Congress entry limit is 10 divided between the two divisions. Overall team entry is limited to 60.

Judges: Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges). The head coach is

expected to judge and be listed as the 1st judge on the entry.

Online

Balloting We will be using online ballots for our tournament. This means several things:

  1. You will need to supply valid email addresses for each of your judges.

  2. Your judges will need to bring a laptop or tablet to use to judge. While smartphones can work, it’s a bit more difficult to write critiques on a phone than the larger devices.

  3. Our goal is to pilot the use of online ballots so judges become accustomed to the process.

Doubling: All events are allowed to double according to IHSFA rules.

  • Please note the following regarding doublers in Extemp and Broadcasting:

  1. Extempers MUST go to extemp first and then go to their second event.

  2. Broadcasting doublers MUST go to Broadcasting first.

  • All events will go 4 rounds.

  • Broadcasting:

    • Round 1-- 5 minute news program. Information for the commercial and music copy will be available for download Monday, November 18th after 6pm.

Food: Will be available all day.  Please remember that as the cost to hosting a tournament increases, your support through purchasing food at the tournament is greatly appreciated.

Awards: Top 3 finishers in each event division will earn sweeps for your team.  Ribbons for the top 6 as well as trophies for the top 5 teams.
