                                     Munster High School Debate Tournament

 

Munster High School Speech and Debate invites you to attend our 2019 Debate Tournament on Saturday, October 26, 2019.

 

Online registration will be available at SPEECHWIRE and will be open ASAP.  If you have questions feel free to email Steven Kennedy at kennedystevenp805@gmail.com.

 

Registration will be at the Media Center from 6:45 AM to 7:45AM (Munster Time)  First Round will start at 8:00 AM.  Awards will hopefully conclude by 5:00 PM

 

We will feature competition in Varsity and Novice Divisions of Policy; Lincoln Douglas; Public Forum; and  Congress. There will be one Division of World Schools Debate.  We will power match as the entry pool permits.  Novice is defined as a first year debater.

 

Policy will debate “Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.  Novice restrictions will apply—no Topicality, Counterplans or Kritiks.  Novice cases are restricted to: Saudi Arabia; India; Drones: and small arms.

 

Lincoln Douglas:  Varsity and Novice will debate the September/October Topic:  Resolved: In the United States, colleges and universities ought not to consider standardized tests in undergraduate admissions decisions.

 

Public Forum:  Varsity and Novice will debate the September/November topic: Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

World Schools Debate:  There will be one Division of World Schools Debate.  There will be two rounds on the prepared topic: “Resolved: This House believes that tariffs are economically beneficial.”  WSD teams will debate one round on each side of the Resolution.  There will be two impromptu rounds.

 

Congress:  Varsity and Novice Congress will debate Legislation 1, 4, 6, and 8.  Varsity will elect its P.O.  Please email me if you have a volunteer willing to P.O. Novice

 

Judges:  Please bring one judge for each 4 debaters entered.  Congress= one judge for each 5 entries: WSD  one judge for all entries.  Varsity Debaters with 250 NFL points may judge in the Novice Divisions.

 

Food:  There will be food available for purchase by the students; and a sumptuous Judges’ Lounge gratis.  Judges and competitors should remain in the building and available to Tabroom at all times.

 

Awards:  We will be giving ribbons for 1st through 8th; and Sweepstakes trophies for 1st through 5th.
