Concord High School Debate Tournament

 

The Concord High School Forensics Team invites you to attend our 2019 Fall Debate Tournament on Saturday, October 12th.  Please read the information below.  

 

Online registration is available on Speechwire and should be open now.  If you have any questions please email me at jeff.stutzman@gmail.com.  

 

PLEASE NOTE: We will be using online balloting this year, so you will need to enter your judges’ emails when you register. Judges will also need to create a Speechwire account.

Judge Meeting:  8:30am in Cafeteria.

First Round

Awards

Approximately 4:00pm

Notes:

  • Policy, LD, PF, WSD, and Congress will be offered and will follow IHSFA rules.

  • Policy, LD, PF, and WSD will be power-matched rounds 3 & 4 as time allows.

Policy:

  • 2 divisions offered:  Varsity and Novice. Novice is defined as a first year debater.  IHSFA rules apply.  

  • Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.

Lincoln-Douglas

  • Varsity and Novice offered.  

  • Both divisions will use the September/October topic. IHSFA Rules Apply.

  • Resolved: In the United States, colleges and universities ought not consider standardized tests in undergraduate admissions decisions

Public Forum:

  • Varsity and  Novice offered.

  • Both Divisions will use the September/November topic. 

  • Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative.

World Schools Debate:

  • One Division will be offered.

  • Rounds 1 & 3 will be impromptu. Teams may use 2 Reference books for prep.

  • Round 2 Proposition: This House believes that multi-state economic organizations (e.g. European Union; NAFTA; etc.) cause more harm than good.

  • Round 4 Proposition:  This House supports statehood for Puerto Rico.

Congress:

  • Varsity and Novice offered.  

  • Legislation 3, 5, 7, 9 will be debated.  

  • Varsity will elect presiding officers from within the house with competitors voting for best P.O.  

  • Please email me directly if you have someone willing to PO a novice house.  

JUDGES:

  • Please bring one judge for every 4 debaters or fraction thereof (3 PF teams=2 judges). Congress=1 judge per 5 entries/fraction.

  • For WSD, please bring 1 judge per 2 teams.

  • All judges should be ready to judge any event.

  • Varsity debaters with 250 NFL points+ may judge novice (PLEASE make sure to mark them as such on their registration.)

  • We will be using online balloting, so all judges will need to register on Speechwire prior to coming and bring a device.  Laptops or tablets are preferred over smartphones. A few computers will be available for use after each round.

Registration: Final registration with names for all divisions are due by 8pm EDT Tuesday, October 8th.  Judges AND emails should be registered on speechwire by Thursday, October 10th.
