We are so excited to invite you to the Coral Springs Middle School “Stallion Showcase Showdown”, middle school debate invitational January 26, 2019.  Our school, team, and parents are excited that we were able to step in and help out by hosting this Saturday tournament. We are hard at work to provide you with an amazing experience.  
 
Registration will be open until 5pm on Tuesday, January 23rd.
 
Lunch for the competitors will an option of a Turkey, Ham, or Veggie sub with a bottle of water, chips, and a cookie. There will be a separate meal provided for judges and coaches. MAKE SURE TO MAKE YOUR MEAL CHOICES IN SPEECHWIRE BY THE CLOSE OF REGISTRATION ON TUESDAY, OR YOUR CHOICE WILL DEFAULT TO TURKEY.
 
Events: We will offer outstanding competition in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Policy Debate, Congress, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Impromptu, Poetry, and Prose.
 
The champion of their event will receive a trophy, 2nd place will receive a plaque, and 3rd through 6th place will receive medals.
 
Rounds: There will be 4 rounds of competition across Speech and Debate. Congress will have 3 sessions.
 
Judges: You will need you to make sure to provide 1 judge for every 5 IE entries (including Congress) and 1 judge for every 3 debate entriesor any fraction thereof.
 
Entry fee: There are No Entry Fees
 
Safety & Security:
  • All competitors, judges, and coaches MUST visibly wear and display the identifying lanyards and/or badges provided. Check your email for distribution information. Anyone not wearing their lanyard and/or badge will be asked to leave the campus. High school student judges should be given lanyards from their coach.
  • No competitor may enter a room until the judge arrives, and if they're waiting for a judge longer than 15 minutes they should send a representative to the media center to let the tab room know.
  • No competitors may wander around the school. They must either be in rounds or in the cafeteria.
  • Current BCPS Security Policy reiterates the importance of consistent supervision of students by their coach/chaperone. ALL coaches MUST wait until all of their students have left campus via approved transportation before they can leave Coral Springs. Failure to adhere to this rule will preclude a team from future tournament participation.
 
For PF, the JANUARY topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should prioritize reducing the federal debt over promoting economic growth.
 
For LD, the JANUARY/FEBRUARY topic will be used - Resolved: The United States ought not provide military aid to authoritarian regimes. Note: we are NO LONGER using the Novice LD (civil disobedience) topic.
 
For Policy Debate, the 2018-19 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce its restrictions on legal immigration to the United States. In addition, at the ASTs all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. Instructions for accessing the packet were emailed directly to all coaches.
 
Extemp topic areas will be "Africa", "Europe", "Education" and "US Immigration".
 
Impromptu topic areas will be "New Year", "Political Cartoons", "Colors", and "Sports".
 
Congress will use the January MAST Legislation. If a chamber finishes debating all 4 pieces of legislation, they will move on to the February MAST legislation. Congress legislation for the spring semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The spring legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which months, with 4 bills per month.
