Dear Speech Coach,

 

Coal City High School is pleased to invite you to take part in the FINAL I-8 conference speech tournament.  As we all know next year the conference will be broken up with schools all going to the winds so this will be the final year of our tournament as we have been running it for the past several years. Please join us as we wrap up the season and prepare for regionals!

Our schedule for the day, weather permitting, will be as follows:

 

7:15-7:45 -- Registration  - Home Room for everyone Cafeteria

7:45 -- Extemp prep and Radio prep in LRC

8:15 -- Drops posted outside tab room!

8:30  - Round I 

10:00 - Round II 

11:30 - Round III 

2:00 (or sooner if possible) - Finals

4:00 (or sooner if possible)  – Awards

 

 

General Information

1. Please register on Speechwire as soon as possible. Each school is allowed 2 entrees per category.

 

2.  Complete the registration through Speechwire  by January 16th   Please enter numbers as soon as possible and update them as they change.  You can enter names any time prior to the start of the meet.

 

3.  You can either mail me your check for $120 for a single team; 

 

4.  All 14 IHSA events will be open for competition.  You are allowed only two entries per event (unless you have made other arrangements with us).  KEEP in mind, both radio and extemp will prep once at the beginning of the day and again before the final round.  Please stress the rules of radio prep!  They will be followed.

 

 

5. We would ask that all judges be prepared to time and to consider time somewhat in their rankings.  Gross violations of time limits should be penalized.  Judges in Impromptu and Extemp will also time, so bring at least one stopwatch per team!!  Make sure your judges know how to signal time correctly for all events, but especially for Impromptu and Extemp!  

 

 

 

6. Each school is to provide one judge for every five entries, up to four judges per school. All judges for the days tournament should be "clean" meaning that they can be used to judge competitors from your own team.

 

7. As in the past, we will run the I-8 tournament as an invite, allowing schools from outside the conference to compete.  During awards, I-8 competitors will receive the I-8 medals, and separate awards will be given to those that are not in the I-8.

 

 

8. There will be basketball and wrestling tournaments hosted at Coal City as well so the concession stand will be open all day.
