Dear Speech Coach:

 

The Munster High New Year's Rockin' Speech Meet will be held on January 5, 2019.  Preliminary registration is due by Friday, December 21 by 5:00 P.M, CST.    You may bring as many entries as preferred as long as you have the judges to support the entry.  Up to 40 entries on Sweeps Team.  All other entries will be marked as Non-Sweeps.  Registration will be from 6:45-7:15 in the Media Center.  Extemp draw will start at 7:30 CST and rounds will begin at 8:00 AM. There will be four straight rounds. 

 

Double Entering: Contestants may double, and only three students may triple at their own risk. If you are a Discussion contestant, you will not be eligible to double enter.  Extempers may double only in Impromptu, Informative, and Oratory.  Both duo partners (OP Duos included) may double. If you are doubling in two partner events, you must double only with the same partner for both events.

Please bring one qualified judge, willing to write informative critiques, for every five entries or fraction thereof.  

 

 

 

Radio: Radio contestants should bring a current 5-minute newscast (music lead-in, commercial, etc).  You will use the newscast for Rounds 1 +4. Develop the music lead-in and commercial-your choice.  

 

Round 2- Editorial on Immigration Reform.   Round 3 - On the Spot. 

 

Extemp: Extemp topics will be taken from current events.  Extemp Draw before Round 1 + 3.  Students will present their Round 1 Speech in Round 2.  Students may choose out of their two speeches for the final round. 

 

All extempers are to report to the Resource Lab  by 7:15. 

 

 

Discussion - Discussion prompts will be sent by Monday, December 17.  Students will have break to prepare discussion. The questions will be provided at the tournament. 

 

We will provide ribbons to the Top 6 Finishers in varsity. Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top five schools.  Munster will not compete for team awards.

 

Concessions will be provided at a reasonable cost.   Plan to eat here since there are no close restaurants.  We look forward to seeing you on November 3. 

Because of security concerns, students are asked to not enter a competition room until the judge is present.

 

Important: Please make sure to text any drops you have by 6:30 AM on Saturday at 219-218-1085. We prefer texting over phone calls.   There will not be any drops to pick up on the day of the tournament.
