Pinecrest Speech and Debate
 
All Coaches, please note:  there are no late registration fees for the Pinecrest Open.  Registration is open until Friday, September 28 at 4 pm.  At that time, registration will be close and fees will be locked. Feel free to continue making changes to your registration up until that time.
 
Dear Coach,
 
It’s that time again! The Twelfth Annual Pinecrest Open Speech and Debate Tournament will be held Saturday, September 29th at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, and and we anticipate a bigger and better tournament than ever! Plan now to join us on the Pinecrest campus for a well-run day of competition.
Competition will be offered in Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Oral Interp (CFL rules), Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speech, Informative Speaking, Program of Oral Interpretation, Declamation, and Original Oratory. Competition will be offered in Varsity and Novice categories in Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate.  Speech events with eight or more entries will be broken into Novice and Varsity categories as well.
 
School registration fee is $15.00 with $13.00 per student per event.
 
Public Forum Debate will use the September/October topic, Resolved: The United States should accede to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea without reservations.
Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate will use the September/October topic, Resolved: In the United States. reporters ought to have the right to protect identity of confidential sources.
Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate will use the Novice topic, Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
 
Congressional Debate will accept student submitted legislation up through September 15th.  Email submissions in Word format to carter.libby@gmail.com.  After September 15th, the docket will be supplemented with legislation taken from this past June's NSDA National Tournament. We anticipate having the full docket posted no later than September 17th.
 
Novice speech competitors will not be penalized for using their scripts.
 
Registration will take place from 8:00-8:30am in the media center at PHS. Please make checks to Pinecrest Forensics Boosters.
Our team parents are busy planning for extensive refreshments in our student concession stand, and for this reason, we ask that you please NOT bring outside food/drinks onto campus.
