Dear Coaches,

Please have your entries updated by 3 pm, Tuesday 2-13-18. Please call or text my cell when you are boarding your bus with any last minute drops on the day of the meet.

We will run three rounds on the hour, beginning at 4:00, then 5:00, and finally the third round at 6:00 PM.  Students in all draw categories should come prepared for round one.

We’re trying something different for Draws for rounds two and three. When you arrive for check-in, we will hand you a packet with information, critique sheets for your competitors, etc. Along with this information will be the following for your draw category competitors:

Extemp Prose: A schematic with scheduled cuttings for rounds 2 & 3 including alternates. These cuttings will only be from the first 8 stories of the MSHSL list.

Extemp Poetry: A schematic with scheduled cuttings for rounds 2 & 3 including alternates.

Storytelling: A schematic with scheduled cuttings for rounds 2 & 3 including alternates. These cuttings will only be from the first 8 stories of the MSHSL list.

Extemp Speaking: A list of questions the competitor can choose from for rounds 2 & 3, both domestic and international will be provided.

Cuttings will be from the following texts:

Prose: A Sound of Thunder and other stories by Ray Bradbury; Harper Perennial; 2005 ISBN -13:978-0-06-078569-7
Poetry: The Poetry of Our World, An International Anthology of Contemporary Poetry Edited by Jeffery Paine published by Perennial 2001 ISBN 0-06-055369-3 (Hardback) or ISBN 0-06-095193-1 (Paperback) (Poetry)
Storytelling: Story numbers 1-10 on the gutenberg.org webpage, as described on the Speech section of the MSHSL website.
Discussion Tasks: The Movement of People: How Mobility Has Impacted Society and Culture (we will be using tasks from section "PEOPLE ISSUES")

The media center will still be used as a quiet place for students to prepare their draws. Discussion Tasks will be provided at the beginning of the round by the judge, as per usual.

Busses should park in the bus loop on the east side of the building, and teams should enter through the East Doors, Door 15.

There will be a concession stand available for student purchases throughout the evening, including pizza by the slice, candy, and beverages.  Dinner will be provided for judges in the Teacher's Lounge, room D121.

If you have questions/concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Sam Lewis
