Dear Speech Coaches,

It is truly a remarkable time to be alive and living in America. The past year has brought about so much change, uncertainty, and turmoil, it’s enough to drive out the few last remaining hairs from a male speech coach’s head (well, any coach NOT named Dirk Palmer). But luckily, some things remain constant. Like gravity. And the Bears’ ineptitude against the Packers. And the DeKalb Corn Classic Forensics Extravaganza: helping make your life easier by changing nothing. After all, if it ain’t completely unsuccessful, try not to mess it up.

DATE: Saturday, December 2nd

STRUCTURE: Two flighted preliminary rounds (one being double-judged), and varsity and novice finals.  Round 1A competition will begin at 8:00; Radio and Extemp are B events, so prep will begin at 8:30 and 8:45, respectively. (Remember extemp prep is only 30 minutes this year).  Please plan to arrive no later than 7:30.

ENTRY: Feel free to enter as many speakers in each event as you like (your entry fee will be based on your total number of entries).  Team sweepstakes will be determined using your top two speakers in each event.  Teams will register online using SpeechWire.

JUDGES: Each team is expected to bring one qualified judge for every six entries.  If you wish to bring extra entries, you will be asked to bring extra judges as well.  Hired judges may be available at a cost of $100 per judge.

29 – 42 entries: $150

43 – 56 entries: $200

57+ entries: $250

AWARDS: All individual finalists (varsity and novice) and the top 3 teams will receive awards. Depending on  numbers, we may also hold next-in finals.

REGISTRATION: Begins at 7:00am.

EXT/IMP TOPICS: Each team should submit 10 Impromptu topics and 10 Extemp questions via SpeechWire.

ENTRY DEADLINE:   Friday, November 24th

DIRECTIONS: For those coming from either direction on I-88, your best option is to take the Annie Glidden Rd. exit and head north through NIU’s campus (about 3 miles).  Take a right at the light for Dresser Rd.  The school will be on your left after about a mile.
