Welcome to the registration site for the CHSAA Colorado State Speech and Debate Championship Tournament!

Many thanks to Paul Angelico, Bud Ozzello, Audra Cathy, and the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) for their continued support of speech and debate activities in the state of Colorado!

Tournament Information

Tournament Date: March 17-18, 2017

Location: Mountain Vista High School, 10585 Mountain Vista Ridge, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126

Qualification: Students qualify to compete at the Colorado State Tournament based on their performance at the regional qualifying tournaments.

Schedule: The tentative schedule has been posted on the schedule link on this website.

Registration: Registration must be completed at www.speechwire.com by March 6, 2017. Late, missing, or incomplete registrations will result in a $25 late fee.

Registration Procedures:

  • Go to www.speechwire.com
  • Go to "Tournament Calendar"
  • Go to "CHSAA State Tournament" and click on the link.
  • Register your team by accepting your qualifiers to the State Tournament.
  • Please ensure that student names are listed as you would like them to be listed in the State Tournament Book and in any tournament results.
  • For the Interpretation of Literature events and POI, please update, if needed, the title and author information for each selection. Remember that competitors are required to bring a copy of the original source(s) to the tournament.
  • For Original Oratory and Informative Speaking, please update, if needed, the title of the speech and in parentheses identify the topic area. For example, " One Word " (Use of Language)
  • An Oratory/ Informative Cover Sheet and a typed manuscript of each qualifying oration and informative speech must be submitted to CHSAA (mail or email) by March 6.

 

Extemp Topic Areas: The order of topic areas for the tournament will be drawn at registration on Friday morning and announced for all competitors.

CX Debate 2016-2017 Topic

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.

Lincoln Douglas Debate March-April 2017 Topic

Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee the right to housing.

Public Forum Debate March 2017 Topic

Resolved: The United States should no longer pressure Israel to work toward a two-state solution.
