General Information about this tournament:

The "main event" is the OHSSL State Novice tournament. We are also running an All-Ohio Middle School tournament and a varsity Biq Questions Debate (for all high school competitors in BQD) as well.

Arrival:

BUSES: Drop off at the "D1" entrance on Everett Road, across from St. Victor Church. Enter through that door. Bus drivers should park at Hillcrest Elementary School (just east of St. Victor, at the NW corner of Everett and Revere Roads

CARS: Please park in the "Staff" spots behind the building, near to the "B8" entrance. You may enter there.

Handicapped/disabled: The "B6' entrance will be open, but PLEASE for those with disabilities only.

Registration will be at a table in the Science Wing (located just inside the "D1" and "B8" entrances. Please make all payments, changes, etc. at this site.

Student holding is in the cafeteria -- at the south end of the building. Student volunteers will direct everyone there. There is also a separate room for all coaches (faculty lounge), and an "oral critique" room, Room 144, across from the cafeteria for any judges wishing to talk further with competitors after any round (TD NOTE: Rooms are at a premium, and student judges will want to talk with novice students. DO NOT LET THEM LINGER IN ROOMS.  Prompt ballot return is critical for the tournament. That's why we established an "oral critique" room.

TAB will be in room 139 (Same floor, but north of the Cafeteria). Signs will be posted.

Please sign in all competitors and judges no later than 8:15 AM.

Eligibility:

Any high school student who has not competed in an OHSSL event prior to August 2016 is considered a novice for this tournament. If you have a "duo" (PF Debate or DUO Interp) where one person has previous experience or 'other event' experience, we ask that NO STUDENT who has competed in more than 15 tournaments be entered in this tournament.

Events:

3 rounds of all OHSSL Speech events (Extemp may be combined if entries are few)  We MAY offer a power round for high-entry events, if any.

3 rounds of 2-person Policy  (six entries minimum)

3 rounds of Big Questions Debate (can be single or dual entries -- six entries minimum)

2 sessions of Student Congress  (QuarterFinal and SemiFinal Dockets from 2017 OHSSL State tournament will be used)

4 rounds of LD and PF  (Using the March PF topic and March-April LD topic)

LD, PF, and Policy will be randomly paired until the last round of each, which will be paired high-high.

Unless numbers grow significantly, we will likely combiine IX and USX for competition, each drawing from their respective set of questions.

Combination of DI and HI is also possible, with students identifying their category for the judge prior to speaking in the round.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Bear with us -- first time! We will offer OO, INFO, Extemp, Interp (all three, perhaps combined into one or two event), Congress (Stat QuarterFinal deocket), Policy (minimum six entries) and Public Forum.

Coaches John Kerezy and Ellyn Kastelic at Revere have established a "Google Share Doc" where we are trying to compile information about Middle School entries for plannin purposes. Email johnkprof@gmail.com to gain access to this.

ONLY STUDENTS IN THE 6, 7, or 8 grades can compete in this. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Awards:

Awards will be given to the top 6 in events with more than 10 entries.

Awards will be given to the top 3 in events with fewer than 10 entries.

There will be no sweepstakes awards at this tournament.

We hope to have awards up and running (if not done) by 3:00.

A word or two about judges:

We are highly encouraging you to bring qualified, VARSITY student judges. If you bring adult judges, please make sure they know that ALL judges and competitors will be eating from the same menu and at the same reasonable prices.  Food for TAB is gratis. To be sure we have enough food, we do ask that the number of judges you bring is commenurate with the typical judge ratio (1per 5 IE, 1 per 2 in debate, 1per 10 in congress)

Questions? Please call John Kerezy at 44-364-1133 or email johnkprof@gmail.com
