Forensics is returning to Oshkosh!

The Oshkosh North Forensics Team invites you to take part in the return of forensics to the shores of Lake Winnebago!   The short bus ride to Oshkosh will be worth your while, as we will be hosting a fun, efficient, and well-run tournament.

We will offer three rounds of preliminary competition of all standard WFCA events, and if sufficient entries warrant, we will also offer Novice Prose and Poetry competitions.  Since we understand the value of the power round learning experience, we will ensure a power round competition for all categories, even if it serves to only determine whom among the top three will be the day’s champion.

And speaking of champions, we will be offering trophies to the top three finishers in all events as well as providing finalist medals to all students advancing to the power round.  We will award trophies to the top three in at least two divisions (three divisions if enough team size variation occurs).

We have a large high school, so we will be able to host a large tournament completely on our campus.  And since we are celebrating being the new location on the WFCA calendar, we are extending an invitation to our WHSFA friends in the area to provide an opportunity for them to share in our excitement of hosting!

ENTRIES:  Teams may enter as many entries as they would like, with the top 25 not competing in Novice Poetry or Prose earning team points.  Double entries are allowed in all categories, except Radio and Extemp due to scheduling constraints.

RULESWFCA Rules will apply in all events.  To accommodate our WHSFA Public Address competitors without an equivalent category, we will advise judges not to penalize Oratory entries that meet time and topic guidelines of WHSFA’s Public Address event.  Similarly, we will advise judges not to penalize Solo Humorous and Serious entries meeting the shorter, eight minute WHSFA time limit.

JUDGES:  Please provide one qualified judge for every five entries or fraction thereof.  If you are short on judges, you may hire one of our independent extra judges at a rate of $115/judge.  You must provide the number of judges you indicate on your original entry and any additional judges to accommodate any late adds.  Please note, we will be inviting “celebrity” judges from the arts, government, education, and journalism to provide written critiques in select Power Rounds.  However, “celebrity” critiques will not count toward official scores nor replace any of the three standard, quality judges whose Power Round evaluations will determine official results.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  Monday, January 18 at 5:00 P.M. via Speechwire.com (click on the Oshkosh North Tournament link).  Coaches should manage drops on Speechwire through 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 22.  Entry fees will apply to any drops after this date.

CONFIRMATION:  We will send you a confirmation e-mail the week before the meet.  Each team will need to confirm their entries with us via text by 7:15 A.M. on Saturday morning so we can accommodate any last-minute changes while keeping the tournament on time!  We will only allow day-of adds if competition space and schedule availability allows.

FEES:  $9 per individual entry and $12 for each group entry (Duo, Group Interpretation, and Play Acting) as of your team’s registration on Speechwire through 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 22.  Please make checks payable to Oshkosh North Forensics.  Registration fees will still apply to any entries dropped after 3:00 P.M. on Friday.

FOOD:  We will have complimentary breakfast and lunch items for judges, coaches, and drivers in the hospitality lounge.  The Oshkosh North Booster Club will sell food throughout the day for competitors.

The Oshkosh North Booster Club will be offering ala carte items for breakfast and meal deals for lunch: Combo A: Sub, Chips or Fruit Choice, and Drink for $7.00 or Combo B: Hot Dog, Chips or Fruit Choice, and Drink for $5.00.  Pizza by the slice will also be available for purchase.

ACCESSIBILITY:  Please let us know if any students or judges require special accessibility needs, and we will be happy to accommodate.
