Dear coaches,

Thank you for being interested in this year’s DeForest invitational.  This year we are using SpeechWire to sign-up teams for the tournament.  This can be done by going to the website https://www.speechwire.com and finding the DeForest Invite tournament.

 

Rules of the DeForest Tournament:

We will be using WHSFA rules with allowances made for WFCA rules.  Each Judge will be given a Rules Deviation sheet and rules for both organizations will apply.  A competitor’s presentation will be acceptable as long as it falls under the guidelines of either the WHSFA or WFCA.   

 

This year's tournament will be held at DeForest Area High School.  The address is:

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
Registration will close at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22.  You may add and drop entries until midnighton Thursday, January 28. We must limit entries due to space.  We will accommodate about 500 entries on a first come, first served basis.

DAY of TOURNAMENT DROPS and CHECK-IN:
All schools are required to text their drops or confirm their attendance by 7:30 am on Saturday morning. We need to know of your drops or if everyone is present!!! Don't feel comfortable texting? Have a student do it! A text should have: school name, Drop category, entry's code and student's first name.

A sample text might be like this:

We will begin at 7:45 in the High School Office.  All participating schools are expected to be checked-in no later than 8:15 AM.

RULES:
WHSFA rules will be used for all categories with allowances made for WFCA variations.   Duo Interpretation and OIL will also be offered.

SCHEDULE:
7:45            Registration
8:30            Radio/Extemp drawings begin in the LMC
8:35    Student meeting in Cafeteria and Judges' Meeting in Little Theater
9:00            Round I
10:30           Round II
11:45           Round III
1:15            Power Rounds begin
2:45            Awards in the PAC

DOUBLE-ENTRIES  Double entries will be allowed.

AWARDS:
The top three in each category will receive trophies.  The remaining power round contestants will receive medals. Team trophies will go to the top five schools.  First and Second place small team trophies will go to the schools with 6-14 original entries that earns the best average per entry.

FOOD: Students may purchase lunch in the high school cafeteria.  Food for judges and bus drivers will b e provided.

FEES: A fee of $9.00 for each individual entry and $12.00 for Play Acting, Group Interpretation and Duo Interp based on your registration as of Thursday, January 28.
Refunds will not be made for drops after midnight on Thursday, January 28.

Please print out your students' codes on Friday, January 29.

JUDGES: Each school must provide one judge for every five entries or portion of five entries. Each group or play is considered one entry.  Bring your own judges.  If you are having problems filling a judging assignment, DeForest may be able to hire one for you at $100 per judge. If you wish to have a judge hired for you please e-mail me at taugust@deforestschoools.org by Friday, January 22. Schools are still responsible for their number of judges as of midnight on Thursday, January 28.

JV TEAMS: We will accept JV entries. (Entries over 25 count as JV.)
