On behalf of the speech and debate program at Hathaway Brown and University School Middle School, we am proud to welcome you to Shaker Heights.  We are pleased to offer competition in all OSDA HS and MS events and Big Questions Debate for High School.  We will also offer asynchronous rounds of Prose and Commentary to be submitted by video the Tuesday before the tournament as a way for students to try out these events before states.  To be safe, we  will begin with 4 entries in every event and place any overflow on the waitlist, with the expectation that once we see attendance, we will hopefully be able to accommodate more.  

 

We will guarantee 4 rounds of IE, 3 rounds of policy and middle school competition, and 4 rounds of LD and PF, with a 4th round of middle school and a 5th round of LD/PF possible if we have enough rooms and time.  Speech double entries are permitted except for extemp.    

 

Congress will use the OSDA docket for January 9th. MS Congress also use the OSDA Middle School docket (exact bills TBD).  MS PF will debate the OSDA MS PF topic for January/February 2027.  All other debates will use the appropriate NSDA topics for January 2027

 

A variety of lunch options will be offered to students.  We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs, but please feel free to bring your own food if you feel the need.
