THE D'EVELYN HALF AND HALF Saturday, November 21, 2026 at D'Evelyn Senior High School and Online
You are enthusiastically invited to participated in our first invitational tournament: The D'Evelyn Half and Half on Saturday, November 21, 2026 at D'Evelyn Senior (10359 W. Nassau Ave, Denver). Registration will be from 8:00 am to 8:30 am, and doors to the school will open at 7:30am.
So why is it called the Half and Half? Because half of the events will be live and in-person and half of the events will be asynchronous recordings. (We have a small building.) * LD, PF, CX,Mixed Extemp will be held in-person (In Mixed Extemp, students will be allowed to choose from either National or International questions) Saturday, November 22. * Humor, Drama, Duo, Poetry, POI, OO, and Info will be submitted on recordings to be judged asynchronously.
Students may double enter in as many Async events as they'd like. Students may enter only ONE in-person event, but they may also enter Async events. If you provide the judges, you may cross-enter students in whatever events are appropriate (but ONLY ONE in-person event).
We will be using current CHSAA rules.
Pre-registration: All schools that are planning to attend must pre-register through Speechwire.com. Enter early, since we expect our rooms to fill quickly. Please notify us of all drops as soon as possible. I will call or email you if I have questions or if we are full.
Recordings for Async events must be sumbitted by WEDNESDAY, November 18. That will allow me time to check if the links work and time to correct broken links.
TOPICS: Lincoln-Douglas (in-person): Resolved: De-extinction is unethical. Public Forum (in-person): Resolved: European members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization should ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Cross-Ex/Policy (in-person): Resolved: The United States federal government should establish national health insurance in the United States.
VIDEO RECORDINGS: Video recordings should emulate live performances as much as possible. Performances need to be recorded in a single take with no editing. The camera should be set far enough away from the participants to include all movement without any panning or other camera movement. Performers should be lound enough to be heard without microphones, etc.
Limits on entries: Each school is limited to 5 entries per event. We might be able to accommodate more as we get closer to the tournament. Go ahead and enter waitlisted students. We will close the tournament when rooms are full.
Fees: Fees are listed on Speechwire.com. Please make checks payable to D'Evelyn Senior High School, attention Tammie Peters, 10359 W. Nassau Avenue, Denver, CO 80235. For Jeffco Schools, I will get back to you with the account number for transfers.
Judging: Schools are expected to provide judges to cover their entries. Please submit the names of 1 judge for every 6 non-debate entries and 1 judge for every 2 debate entries. The biggest limitation on the size of the tournament (especially the Async part) is the number of judges provided. Please provide at least a beginner's understanding to your judges before the tournament.
Schedule: All events will have 3 preliminary rounds and finals. All undefeated debaters/teams will have a final round. All judging for the Async rounds will happen on Saturday and should be finished by 2:00pm so we can schedule finals.
Rules Notes: A responsible coach must be available ONSITE and VIA CELL at all times. Competition is open to 9-12 grade students. In OO and Info, scripts are not allowed
Food: Food will be available for students to purchase. We will provide snacks and lunches for coaches and judges.
