SNAFU Tournament Series Invitation
2026-2027 Season
The Southern and Northern Atlantic Forensic Union (SNAFU) cordially invites your team to our 2026 - 2027 tournament series. We are offering four in-person, one online synchronous, and one online asynchronous tournament. At all tournaments, we will offer all 11 AFA events and, with the exception of the async, IPDA Debate.
SNAFU is an educational nonprofit striving to provide accessible and affordable collegiate forensics experiences. If your team is student-run, operating without a budget, or dealing with recent budget cuts, we are happy to discuss fee accommodations for entry at our tournaments. We would rather have your entries and your judges than your money.
Please note: Swing partners may have different rules and fee structures from SNAFU. Please see the host school’s invitation for details on their tournament.

Accessibility:
If any competitors or judges have accommodation needs at a tournament, please inform the Tournament Director as soon as possible. SNAFU will make every reasonable effort to accommodate these requests.
Open Door Policy:
SNAFU maintains an open-door policy for all competitors and audience members at its tournaments. As such, students may leave a round at any time before, during, or after performances without penalty from judges.
Entry Confirmation:
You will receive a confirmation email from SpeechWire detailing your entry soon after the entry deadline. Please check this ASAP and contact the Tournament Director with any corrections.
Novice/Varsity IPDA Definitions:
A novice is defined as a student in their first two semesters of debate of any format, including high school. Please make sure you enter students in the appropriate division. All attempts will be made to separate debate into novice and varsity divisions, but the Tournament Director reserves the right to collapse divisions based on entry size and the logistical needs of the tournament.
Tabulation and Competition:
-
SNAFU tournaments will offer two rounds of preliminary competition and a final round for all IE events with at least eight entries.
-
IE events with fewer than eight entries will receive three ballots across two rounds in a single section during prelims.
-
Any IE event with more than 50 entries competing in both preliminary rounds will feature a semifinal round.
-
Final rounds of IE events will aim not to advance more than half the preliminary pool (rounded up).
-
For IPDA, we will offer three or four preliminary rounds with the appropriate number of outrounds, per TD discretion. All attempts will be made to provide 3 judges for debate elimination rounds, but quarters and sems may run with a single judge if tournament logistics require it.
-
Rounds one and two of debate will be randomly paired. If entry size allows, round three will be power-matched and round four will be power-protected.
-
Judges may tie points in IE events.
-
Judges may not tie points in IPDA and may award points in increments of 0.5.
-
SNAFU does not allow blank ballots in IE or ballots missing an RFD in IPDA.
Awards:
-
We will offer an award for all advancing competitors in each individual event and IPDA division.
-
A top speaker will be awarded from each division of IPDA.
-
The top three individual sweepstakes winners in IE will each receive an award. Students must be entered in three events to be eligible.
-
The top three IE schools and top three debate schools will each receive sweepstakes awards. We will also recognize a combined sweepstakes winner, and, entry size permitting, a limited-entry team sweepstakes award(s) for IE.
