Hello!

We’re excited to introduce the H.E.R.D. (Honoring Excellence in Rhetoric and Delivery) National Online Speech Series, powered by Zebrapad.

H.E.R.D. gives students more opportunities to compete nationally, earn NIETOC bids, and receive meaningful feedback throughout the season—without adding another travel weekend.

This tournament is entirely asynchronous, with full details below. The series includes the following tournaments:

Spring Gallop (Jan 22-29) - hosted by American Heritage Broward, FL

Summer Stampede (Mar 19-26)

Zebrapad has created a downloadable H.E.R.D. Video Recording Guide with requirements, best practices, and tips to help you create your best online tournament submission.

H.E.R.D. Video Recording Guide

In summary:

-Videos must be publicly accessible. Please make sure when you/your students are uploading their video links, that they are set to "Anyone with the link can view".

-Videos can be posted on Youtube, Google Drive, etc. as long as their links are viewable.

-Videos may not be altered in any way. All recordings must be single-take.

-Students may not physically touch/alter their camera/recording device during the performance.

-Any videos that can not be viewed during judging will be marked as no show.

Judge Requirements

Each school is responsible for supplying its own judges. H.E.R.D.

One qualified judge is required for every five team registered entries (1:5).

Because H.E.R.D. uses NIETOC event rules and standards, all judges must meet the applicable NIETOC training and certification requirements before receiving tournament ballots.

We’ll Train Your Judges For Free.

Send us your parents, alumni, and volunteers. We’ll provide the required training and certification at no cost, helping you build a stronger judging pool without adding another training job to your plate.

Teams unable to cover their obligation may purchase uncovered/hired judging at $100 per uncovered judge.

Tournament Fees

Single Tournament: $100/team
Full Series: $350/team
