Cauldron Cup Novice

Dear Colorado Coaches, you are invited the Cauldron Cup Novice tournament, hosted by the Rocky Mountain Prep - SMART. We'd love for you to join us!

Events: HI, DI, Duo, POE, POI, OO, INF, Mixed Extemp, PF, LD, and Congress.

“Novice”: Please use your own judgment as to who qualifies as a novice. A student who attended one tournament last spring but now is ready to join the team is probably a novice. A student who has a year of experience is not. Generally speaking, competitors should be attending one of their first tournaments. 

Schedule: 

Registration: 8-8:30

Round 1 - 9am

Round 2 - 10:30

Round 3 - Noon

Awards - ASAP

CONGRESS DOCKET: Coming soon! Posted by Friday, Sept 25th.

Fees & Judges: Fees are $7 an individual entry, and $14 for partnered event. Please bring as many varsity students to judge rounds as possible. 1 varsity student judge for every 2 debate entries, 1 for every 5 speech entries. If these requests are a barrier to your participation, please reach out so we can create a solution.

Debate Topics: 

Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 2026 September/October Topic

Resolved: Outer space colonization is a moral imperative.

Public Forum Debate – 2026 September/October Topic Area

Resolved: The United States federal government should enact a moratorium on hyperscale data center construction.

Congress: 

The docket will be released in late September, roughly three weeks before the tournament.

Extemp Topic Areas: Competitors will be given the choice to draw either USX or IX questions

USX Questions -

Rd. 1: Economy

Rd. 2: Education

Rd. 3: Foreign Policy

IX Questions -

Rd. 1: European Union

Rd. 2: South America and Asia

Rd. 3: Africa
