Entries:

Each school is limited to three entries per event at the State Championship Tournament (33 total entries). Entry deadline is Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026 by 5:00 pm. Please register your students at the MISL State Championships page on Speechwire.com.

Judges:

Schools that register at least 25 entries shall be required to cover seventy-five percent (75%) of their entry with “clean” judges. One judge will cover six IE entries.  If your school needs to hire a clean judge at $25 per round in order to meet MISL bylaws, please e-mail Ryan Rigda (rsrigda@svsu.edu) as soon as possible.  We will put you in contact with some folks you can hire and pay directly if necessary.

Awards:

Awards will be presented to:

  1. The top six (6) speakers in each IE event.
  2. The top novice in each event
  3. The top community college competitor in each event.
  4. The top three (3) schools in sweepstakes.
  5. The community college finishing highest in sweepstakes.
  6. The top two contestants in oratory shall represent Michigan at that year’s Interstate Oratory Association’s Tournament.
  7. The top three contestants in quadrathon will receive awards. To qualify a student must be entered in at least four events, one of each genre (oral interpretation, limited preparation, and public address). If the student is entered in more than four events, only the top score in each genre and the student’s next top scoring event will be used in determining results. Tabulation of points will be identical to the tabulation of team sweepstakes, with preliminary points halved and added to final round total. A quadrathon entry will count as a slot in calculation of fees, but it will not count as a slot in the calculation of the Director’s Trophy winner.
  8. The Director’s trophy for Quality will be awarded to the school with the highest overall slot quality, determined by dividing the school’s total sweepstakes points by the total number of slots that that school entered into the State Championship Tournament as of the close of registration.

Fees:

$10.00 for each I.E. slot

$15.00 for each uncovered I.E. slot

$15.00 per drop prior to registration/$25.00 per dropped judge

$25.00 per drop at registration (slots and judges)

$25.00 per hired judge per round * If needed

$150.00 per hired judge for the day * If needed

Feel Free to Call Dr. Sydney Pasquinelli @ 313-402-1905 if you have any problems arriving on campus.

Parking:

There are several parking options available within a block of Manoogian Hall:

  1. Parking Lot 51 (Engineering Parking Lot) – This is the best lot for Big Vans, and it is just a walk across the street to get to Manoogian Hall. This lot doesn’t print receipts – you should take a picture of the Kiosk with the rates for documentation purposes.
  2. Parking Structure 2 – This structure is covered and is right next to Manoogian Hall. Big vans may have a hard time fitting into the structure. This lot doesn’t print receipts – you should take a picture of the Kiosk with the rates for documentation purposes.
  3. Street Parking – Is only 1 dollar per hour, but you will have to keep repaying every 2-4 hours. This option is the best for receiving receipts, because the structures and the lots don’t print receipts.

Emergency Contact:

For real emergencies please call Wayne State Police:

313-577-2222 or 911

Obviously 911 always works, but the first number goes directly to campus police, instead of having to be routed through Detroit Police, so it will get campus police to you faster.
