Dear Speech Coaches, 
 
 
After dropping students at door #1  off Kent Benson way, buses should park at the south end of the field house.
 
The New Castle High School speech team would like to cordially invite you to our tournament to be held on January 16, 2026. Registration will take place from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. with extemp draw starting at 8:30 and round one of all events starting at 9:00 pm. All events will go three straight rounds. 
 
We will provide food for coaches and judges. Students may bring cash to purchase snacks and beverages at the tournament. These sales will help to defray the cost of the tournament and provide free registration. Please feel free to bring your own water bottles.There are several places to refill bottles at the school. We will not be providing lunch items for contestants. Students may bring a lunch or corrdinate a door dash with their coaches.
 
Registration is on speechwire.com. Please confirm attendance by Tuesday, January 20, 8:30 p.m. by checking if your school will or will not attend. Entries are due at the same time.
 
Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof. Six entries equals two judges. Max of 40 entries per team and 5 entries per event for each team. 
 
Students may double at their own risk in all events EXCEPT discussion. 
 
Events offered: All ISDA speech events plus Improv Duo.  
 
Improv Duo students will be provided with a scenario when they arrive to the round. More information to follow.
 
Radio contestants need to bring a five-minute original news program on their chosen topic to be used for both rounds 1 and 3 that includes a music intro and outro as well as a commercial. 
 
Round two will be a two-minute ORIGINAL (written by the student based on research and his/her own opinion) editorial. Students need to write this before the tournament and bring it ready to perform. 
 
Discussion will use the Socratic Seminar format.
 
Topics and Broadcasting information  will be released on Monday prior to the tournament through speechwire. 
 
Awards are scheduled to begin around 2:30.
