OSDA Columbus District Tournament

Please Note:

To help us plan, PLEASE enter your contestants and qualifiers by Monday, February 2nd.

 

If you have any speech competitors, you will be required to provide...

 

- 2-4 entries = 2 judges

- 5-7 entries = 3 judges

- 8-10 entries = 4 judges

- 11-14 entries = 5 judges

- 15-20 entries = 6 judges (1 must be independent)

- 21+ entries = 7 judges (2 must be independent)

 

Please make sure you are including students who have bid out in your entry numbers. Those students count toward the judge requirement.

 

- The State qualifier tournament requires parent/community judges to have experience judging at least one previous tournament.

 

- Make certain your judges know that run-offs could possibly run late. We will try to wrap up as soon as we can and we appreciate your patience. Teams that do not bring an adequate amount of judges cause the tournament to slow down, so please fill your judge quotas.

 

- First year graduates in speech may not judge the event in which they competed.

 

- Do not make additional blocks ("Extemp Only" or "Oratory Only" judges) without consulting the district committees.

 

- Please put in appropriate time blocks as needed, but reach out to the district committee to make sure you have enough judges covering your entry for the major duration of the tournament.

 

- Coaches are responsible for registering trained, experienced judges who have watched/read implicit bias materials.

 

Each school can register up to 4 entries per category, but that total of four must include your students who've already earned their four bids. Please see the email sent to you by District Chairs for further information.

 

 

 

 

Please note the specific tournament instructions sent to you by your District Chair including payment, OSDA prescribed qualifying ratios, and awards. Be sure to be aware of the following OSDA rules:

 

POI, INF and OO scripts need to be formatted with cover sheets and a bibliography. Each head coach needs to have immediate access to their speech competitors' scripts on Saturday in the event of a challenge.

 

Cover sheets can be found on the OSDA website which is also linked on the download page.  

 

Additionally, on tournament day, Speech students need to be able to produce

 * Their original script source(s)

 * A copy of the original script source(s), with the spoken words highlighted in the order spoken.

 * A typed copy of the performed script.

 

 

 

 

P A Y M E N T

Registration $6 per competitor.  In the Columbus District, new programs whose registration fees were waived by the OSDA this year may attend for free. Be sure to let one of the District Chairs know so that we can update your fees.
