I would like to invite you to attend the Glades Middle School Debate Invitational on Saturday, Febryary 7, 2026. This year’s tournament will feature both middle school and high school divisions.

Registration Fees:
Registration is $25 per student which includes tournament registration and lunch.
 
Student Lunch Includes:
• Two slices of pizza
• One bottle of water
• One bag of chips
 
**Lunch and snacks will be provided free of charge for all judges. A judge lounge with refreshments will be available throughout the day.**

We will offer competition at both the middle school and high school divisions in the following events:
 
Debate
• Congress (CD)
• Public Forum (PF)
• Lincoln-Douglas (LD)
• Big Question (BQ)
 
Speech
• Extemporaneous Speaking (EXT)
• Original Oratory (OO)
• Informative Speaking (INFO)
• Declamation (DEC)
• Performance Oral Interpretation (POI) - High School Only
• Poetry (POE) - Middle School Only
• Prose (PROSE) - Middle School Only
• Duo Interpretation (DUO)
• Dramatic Interpretation (DI)
• Humorous Interpretation (HI)
• Impromptu Speaking (IMP)
• Storytelling (STY) - Middle School Only
 
 
Rounds:
• All debate and speech events:5 rounds
• Congress:2 preliminary rounds with a final round

Event Sign-Up Limits
• 5 entries per speech or debate event
• 10 entries for Congress
• Waitlists will be used if events fill

Topics & Materials
• Debate Topics: February NSDA topics for all debate events. Topics may be found at speechanddebate.org
• Congress Legislation: Please submit legislation to Christine.mcmahon@browardschools.com no later than Tuesday, January 20th. Chosen legislation will be posted on Speechwire on Wednesday, January 21st.
• Impromptu Topics: Provided at the tournament
• Extemp Topics: Domestic Economy, international Conflicts, Domestic Social, Domestic Politics, International Economy

Registration Deadlines
Last day to register competitors: Sunday, February 2
Judge entries due: Thursday, February 5
 
Fees & Drop Policy
•All registration fees are non-refundable.
•Any competitor dropped after February 2 will still be charged the full registration fee.
•If an entire team drops after February 2, the school will be assessed a $100 fee.
 
These policies are necessary due to lunch and trophy orders being finalized after the drop deadline.

Judge Requirements
Each school is required to provide:
• 1 judge per 5 students entered in speech or congress events
• 1 judge per 2 students entered in debate events

Awards
• Awards will be given for 1st–5th place in each event. Parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony.

Tentative Schedule
• Team Arrivals: 8:00–8:15 am – West Entrance (bus loop)
• Team & Judge Registration: 8:00–8:15 am – Cafeteria
• Judges Meeting: 8:30 am – Media Center
• Round 1: 9:00 am
• Lunch: Around noon – Cafeteria
• Awards Ceremony: Approximately 3:00 pm – Cafeteria

Additional Information
• All judges, parents, and coaches should park in the west parking lot (bus loop)
• Judges should report directly to the media center upon arrival
