The Rushville Consolidated High School Speech Team will be hosting the I Heart Speech & Debate Tournament on February 14, 2026. It will be held at RCHS, 1201 Lions Path, Rushville, IN. 46173.
Tournament information:
Drop-off: Please have buses drop off at Door 1. Everyone will need to enter through Door 1 (the main entrance on Lions Path)
Parking: Judges may park in the "triangle lot" on Lions Path between the main building and the Gym. Buses and overflow parking should be in the "senior lot" adjacent to the auditorium, just south of the main high school building and west of the gym.
Registration: Registration will be from 7:45-8:15 am at the main entrance.
Tournament structure: We will run 4 straight rounds with ISSDA speech events and rules. Competitors may double at their own risk EXCEPT in Discussion. Each team may enter 40 total entries with 5 entries maximum per event per team. Extemp will draw all 4 rounds. Big Questions and Congress can run if we have a minimum of 10 entries in each. We hope to provide another opportunity for competition before district for those interested in BQ and Congress!
Awards: Top 6 in each event will receive a ribbon, and top 5 teams will receive a trophy.
Team Sweeps Points Breakdown:
Varsity: 1st=6pts, 2nd=5pts, 3rd=4pts, 4th=3pts, 5th=2pts.
Judges: Each team will provide 1 judge for every 5 entries (6 entries = 2 judges and so on). Failure to provide enough judges may result in being ineligible for team sweeps.
Topics: Discussion and Broadcasting topics will be shared on the morning of Monday, February 9th.
Broadcasting format:
Round 1: News Program
Round 2: Editorial
Round 3: News Program
Round 4: Breaking News
Food: Breakfast, lunch, and coffee will be provided for judges. Concessions will be available for cash purchase in the cafeteria including breakfast items, pizza, walking tacos, soda, and snacks. Proceeds from concessions sales help cover the cost of the tournament, so please plan to eat with us! There won't be a safe way for people to leave/re-enter or have food delivered. Those with severe food allergies are encouraged to pack your lunch, though we do try to consider common food allergies (I.e. gluten, dairy, nuts, etc.)
We have water bottle refill stations, so bringing a reusable water bottle is encouraged!
We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks! Please email any questions or concerns to lemmonsh@rushville.k12.in.us.
