KoMet Middle School KoMotion
General information This is a Middle School tournament in Minnesota. View manager contact information
Hello everyone,
Welcome to the first annual KoMet Middle School KoMotion on Tuesday, February 10! We are excited to host you and your team. As we plan for this tournament, here are some things for you to know:
LOCATION:
This tournament will be at Kasson-Mantorville Middle School (KMMS). Address is: 1400 5th Ave NE Kasson, MN 55944. Please note that school does not get out until 3:00pm. Registration is at 3:30pm. Please do not arrive earlier than 3:15pm, to allow our students some time to leave the school. The closer you arrive to 3:00pm, the more you should expect some level of congestion.
You can drop your students off at our main doors, the doors by the flagpole. There will be tables set up for your team in the Commons, as well as individuals to watch the tables between rounds, so your belongings can stay in the commons between rounds.
Concessions will be available for sale between rounds. We are working on getting a card reader, but please encourage your students to have cash for such. Please do not take any concessions into rounds or the gymnasium.
Maps of the school will be posted throughout the school, and will also be on each team's table in the commons. I will also email out a copy closer to the tournament for your use.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:
3:30pm--registration
4:00pm--Round 1 for all events (draws, please come prepared with a selection of your choice for round 1).
5:00pm--Round 2 for all events (draws, you will have a draw time this round. We will make sure you have enough time to prep between rounds 1 and 2).
6:15pm--Round 3 for all events.
7:30pm or thereabouts--awards.
There will be ribbons awarded to the top 6 in each category, as well as stickers to the top 3. Honorable mentions will be awarded as needed. Team trophies will go to the top 3 teams overall.
My goal is to get you on the road no later than 8:15pm, as I know that this is a school night.
REGISTRATION FEES AND JUDGING:
The cost is $4 per entry. Duo counts as one entry.
No more than 10 entries per category per school.
Please have preliminary entries entered into SpeechWire by Sunday, February 8. This allows us to make sure that room assignments are as up-to-date as possible. I'd like to have smaller rooms, but this will depend on the number of students entered into each category.
Double entering is permissible for all categories except discussion, and no double draws. Triple entry is not allowed.
After February 8, you can still make drops, but that will incur a $4 penalty.
Entry changes (drops or adds) can be made on the speechwire.com tournament site up until the end of registration.
We will be site scheduling all rounds of competition in order to make sure rounds are equal and fair. For this reason, registration must be completed promptly by 3:30 pm the day of the tournament, or a phone call to 507-884-4149 must be made to report your team drops.
Please make checks payable to KoMet Speech Boosters, and plan to bring it with you to the meet.
Each team is required to bring 1 judge for each 6 entries, including double entries.
For each uncovered entry, the team will be assessed a $100 fee.
Please note that since this is a junior high tournament, we are allowing seasoned high school veteran speechies (those with 3+ years of experience) to serve as judges for your team. They should be labeled as unclean judges, but this will allow us to run smaller rooms (3-4) instead of larger one (5-6+).
