The Vel Phillips Memorial Invitational tournament will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

TOURNAMENT LIVE DOC

Registration will take place from 7:30-8:15 AM.

Please drop student off at the Mineral Point Road (main parking lot) entrance.  Buses can park in the Mineral Point Lot as well.

We will be substituting some WFCA categories for NSDA categories. Farrago will be POI, Solo Humorous will be HI, and Solo Serious will be DI. Please note, HI and DI follow the same rules as WFCA Solo Humorous and Serious, but with an updated event name.

POI rules will be slightly different than Farrago rules as we're using NSDA guidelines for this one event. A short explanation of differences: students may move as much as they please and acting is explicitly allowed. No student should have a rank lowered for choosing to move and act. It is basically Farrago with movement and a 30 second grace period instead of 15. We welcome every Farrago student to participate! NSDA guidelines will be posted in our Live Doc.

We will feature WFCA events using WFCA rules, Declamation using NCFL rules (but open to all grades), and Extemporaneous Reading-a limited prep interpretation event.

The top 3 places in Final Rounds will earn trophies.  In addition, the top 3 scoring teams will earn a team trophy, including the top 3 small schools (calculated by enrollment - similar to State).

Registration must be completed on SpeechWire by Thursday, March 5th at 12:00PM.

Registration Fees: $10 for all solo events, $15 group. If you have qualified judges above your requirement, we'd love to have them to make the day run smoother and waive your fees for bringing them.

Have your students compete in the TRIATHLON!  Students must compete in three events.  The top six competitors will receive a Triathlon trophy.

Students may not compete in more than one draw event (Radio, Extemp Speaking), and may not use the same piece in multiple events.
