This is a Middle/High School tournament in Miami, Florida.
You are cordially invited to Miami-Dade After School Tourney #1, to be held Thursday, October 16 at Miami Arts Studio, 15015 SW 24 Street Miami, FL 33185. This tournament will be live and in person.
This tournament offers middle school and high school novice competition. All schools are welcome to compete in this tournament.
Cost will be $7 per student.
There will be two rounds of competition in all events except Congressional Debate, where there will be one 2 hour session. The tournament will begin at 3:30pm Eastern time. We hope to finish awards by 7 PM, but please be flexible regarding the end time of the event.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Wednesday, November 12, at NOON.
Please plan to arrive at the tournament no later than 3:15 pm the afternoon of the tournament to check in.
EVENTS and DIVISIONS: We offer middle school, and Novice. If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Middle School Champion Award in addition to the usual awards. "Novice" is Year 1 of high school debate.
No Double Entry outside of SPEECH EVENTS. If a coach submits the same student for two events that are not both speech, that student will be automatically disqualified for both events.

For speech: Ext/Imp/Hi/Di/Duo/OO/Info. If we do not meet the minimum requirement of entries (4) we will collapse into broader categories (meaning HI/DI/Duo would default to Interp, Info/OO would default to Platform speaking, etc)
Observers are allowed, but must be registered.
TOPICS:
NOTE: Students will debate BOTH sides of the resolution.
Lincoln Douglas Debate: Resolved: The United States ought to rewild substantial tracts of land.
Public Forum Debate: Resolved: The United States federal government should require technology companies to provide lawful access to encrypted communications.
Extemporaneous Speaking Topic Areas: Federal Policies, Foreign Conflict.
Impromptu Speaking Topic Areas: Superheros, Famous Quotes.
CONGRESS LEGISLATION: Submit proposed legislation in either NSDA or NCFL format (either is fine) to gdetuya@columbushs.com, no later than noon Monday, Nov 10.
JUDGES: We will need your judges in order to run the tournament.
The judge ratio for this tournament is 1 judge for every two debate entries; 1 judge for every 5 speech/interp/congress entries.
Please bring parents, teachers, former students, etc.!
Adults and coaches may judge any division. Qualified varsity with at least 75 NSDA points on record may judge the middle school and novice divisions. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.
CONCESSIONS: Concessions (pizza, snacks, drinks, etc.) will be available for purchase with cash only. Pizza will be discounted at $2 dollars per slice.
NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGES PERMITTED.
