We’ve reached year 11, and we invite you to be part of the fun!

The trophies are ordered.  The  welcome display plan is complete.  Speechwire is ready for registrations.  We just need your team! The goals for the year’s tournament are to provide a fun, organized, and professional day of Forensics for you and your team!

If we get another strong year of registrations, as we have in recent years, we plan the following elements that we began implementing in recent seasons:

  1. Consolation finals and awards for our largest events.
  2. Extemp Reading makes a return for a second year as a test category.
  3. Novice finals in Poetry and Prose for those first-year students that don’t quite have the scores to make the regular final in those events (if a novice entry scores high enough, they will compete in the regular final).

We will offer three rounds of preliminary competition of all standard WFCA events.  And as mentioned above, we will again be offering Extemporaneous Reading if we get at least two sections of entries by the close of registration on February 17 (we’ll reach out to schools that have students entered in that category in weeks leading up to the tournament to let them know the likelihood of the event having sufficient entries.  Please register early if you plan to have students in this event).

The top three finishers in all events, including consolation and novice finals, will receive individual trophies, and we will be awarding medals to all other finalists.  We will award trophies to the top three teams in three divisions.  We will determine divisions based on entries the week of the tournament.

We are running a WFCA tournament, but we invite both WFCA and WISDAA schools to attend!

ENTRIES:  Teams may enter as many entries as they would like with up to the top 25 counting toward the team score (maximum 4 entries per category counting toward the team score).  Double entries are allowed in all categories, except Radio and Extemp entries may not enter in both categories due to scheduling constraints (but students may enter in one draw and one non-draw category, Extemp and Moments in History, for example).  Triple entries are not allowed.  Note: Novice Prose/Poetry are only open to students competing in their first year in high school forensics; not their first year in the category.

RULES:  WFCA rules will apply in all events, with Extemporaneous Reading following the Sheboygan South-established rules.  To accommodate the category differences between WFCA and WISDAA, Public Address competitors may enter as Oratory entries.  We will advise judges not to penalize speeches in Oratory that resemble WISDAA Public Address speeches.  But please note, no chairs in Group Interp or the Solo Acting categories are allowed.  We will also be observing the 10-minute time limit for Group Interp and Play Acting.  Additionally, only ONE student is allowed to compete in an Informative Speech that demonstrates.  We will not disqualify students in the speech categories who use notes, regardless of the number of cards.  However, the use of notes is subject to critique.  If you have any questions about rule differences or how the tournament can accommodate your entries, please reach out to discuss.  We are happy to make a plan to make it work.

JUDGES:  Please provide one qualified judge for every five entries or fraction thereof.  If you are short on judges, you may hire one of our independent extra judges at a rate of $125/judge.  You must provide the number of judges you indicate on your original entry as of February 20 at 10:00 A.M. and any additional judges to accommodate any late adds.  We will be using electronic balloting, which requires your judges to come equipped with a laptop/tablet that has Internet access and a Speechwire account.  If this is an issue for your judges, please contact us ahead of time so that we may accommodate.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  Tuesday, February 17 at 5:00 P.M. via Speechwire.com.  Coaches should manage adds and drops on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 20.  Entry fees will apply to any drops after this deadline.

CONFIRMATION:  We will send you a confirmation e-mail the week of the tournament.  Each team must confirm their entries with us via text by 7:15 A.M. on Saturday morning so we can accommodate any last-minute changes while keeping the tournament on time!  We will only allow day-of adds if competition space and schedule availability allow.

FEES:  $10 per individual entry and $15 for each group entry (Duo, Group Interp, and Play Acting) as of your team’s registration on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 20.  Please make checks payable to Oshkosh North Forensics.  Registration fees will still apply to any entries dropped after 10:00 A.M. on Friday.

FOOD:  We will provide a complimentary breakfast and lunch to judges and coaches.  Students will be able to purchase breakfast and lunch items.  We will have more specific menu information closer to the tournament.

ACCESSIBILITY:  Please let us know if any students or judges require special accessibility needs, and we will be happy to accommodate.
